China is just a convenient excuse for Apple's CEO Cook, who would rather focus on liberal politics from his C-suite than focus on innovation. Who wants to pay $1000 for something that is essentially unchanged since the iphone 5 ?
China is a problem for Apple, but Cook is using China to hide a bigger problem. The biggest problem for Apple is their lack of investment in new technology. Apple misjudged the IPhone's price elasticity. Thinking that upping the price $300 without a significant upgrade wouldn't have a big impact on sales was misguided and arrogant.
They are also having a difficult time gaining ground in India. India was mentioned as a possible boon for Apple going forward, and that isn't happening.
To be honest, this actually provides additional leverage for Trump, as it shows that the Chinese economy is in trouble.

It's mainly jsut that phones all got fast enough like 3 years ago.
Similar to the desktop CPU wars of the early 2000s then suddenly they were all fast and paying out the ass for basically unnoticeable differences made no sense.
Unless you are wayy into the phone camera or play hardcore phone games a new phone is barely any different experience than 2 years ago.
