Tier 2 is calling

in Hardcore Husky Board
Right now Bama and Clemson are the undisputed kings of college football. It is their world and everyone else is just living in it. They’re in a current tier by themselves. Anything less than a championship is a disappointment for these two.

The next tier of current teams is only three large. Ohio State, Oklahoma and Georgia are the teams who are expected to be in the playoffs every year and are considered disappointments if they don’t make it.

We aren’t in the large mass of third tier teams who are capable of a run if everything goes right but it probably won’t. We’re joined by teams like Penn State, Michigan, ND, LSU, Florida, Auburn and Stanford (who is probably on its way out).

But a win today is a tier changer for us. It would be a win in a major bowel game, in its traditional format (not just Pac vs Big Ten but champ vs champ which almost never happens anymore), against a higher ranked opponent who happens to be in tier 2.

A win gives us a playoff appearance, a New Years six win and another New Years six in the last three years.

A win makes us a preseason top 5 team next year with Eason hype.

A win takes us from the long muddle of hopefuls to the short list of teams with national expectations (not just in house).

It’s a level up moment.

    cool to doog out but there is no way this team is a top 5 ranking for next season to start for the same reason they started us at 6 this year. The people doing those rankings are morons and thought because we had jake browning coming back that we would be "Pete's Best Team" which was laughable from a talent standpoint compared to the previous two years. They will look at the returning starters on defense and the loss of browning and gaskin and expect a step back.

    We will be ranked in the 10-15 range to start next season and that is perfectly fine. It's better than being overhyped like this year.

    This is actually very true with regards to the off season natty. Oregon gets all that hype now. I prefer it that way though. Having rankings before October is stupid anyways.
