Leach is a good coach for a school like WSU. He would not be a good coach for a bigger program. He gets the most out of his players with his schemes and for some reason no team besides UW wants to try and game plan around that.
Harbaugh is good but his schtick gets old once he has been in a place for too long.
That narrative was pushed by the entitled and arrogant 49er owner to justify firing Harbaugh after going 8-8 one season removed from three straight NFC Championship games. Of course they haven't won 8 games since so there isn't much supporting evidence.
At San Diego and Stanford he built programs that had enduring success for years after he left.
At Michigan he is in year 4 and has his best team yet.
Three coaches who have been lambasted on Hardcore Husky for being fucking idiots, etc. I have defended each of them. They are all good or great coaches. And yes, I would have loved to see Leach coach at Washington. (But you can't show up to an interview wearing flip flops, so I understand Woodward thinking him an odd duck.)
Leach and Harbaugh both 9-1. Pete Carroll needs no defense with his resume.
You really would want to watch the Air Raid at UW?

Leach is a great fit at WSU. They couldn't do better. We don't need to be an air raid program. Pete has a higher end at Washington than Leach would have had.

Set aside the wackiness and the inability to bite his tongue which would never fly in Seattle, Leach almost always has shit defenses. For that reason alone he'd be an awful fit at UW.

His defenses usually aren't great but they also aren't as bad as they look based on the scores.
You have to adjust for the fact that his offense plays fast and doesn't use clock when they are struggling or behind since they are throwing so often.
On a yards per play basis they were decent last year (top 30) and good this year (top 10) although that isn't opponent adjusted. They have a weak schedule and their best opponents both did better than average against WSU. (USC- 15% above season average ypp. Stanford- 6%.)

Yes.
But the average UW fan isn't adjusting for tempo or strategy and would look at those points against and lose their mind.

Imagine what Gaines would do in that defense.
