That running the football successfully isn't a leading predictor of being able to win football games ...

Can anybody name a situation where "controlling the trenches" doesn't give you a better chance to win than not?

There are none. This argument is proof positive that the idiots on Doogman know absofuckinglootely nothing about football, and should be drug behind a truck for continuing to masquerade as people who know anything other than nachos, teen boy hip swivel, shitty wine and lemon party twister.

Fuck them. With a napalm charged jackhammer.

Some say you run when you win, not you win when you run.

I would agree that you run to win.

Honestly, I think this is the downfall, if you can call it that, or Oregon. Somewhere mid-season they felt they could throw the ball better than running.

The NFL and college football aren't the same game. HTH.

The alternative to running the ball is of course throwing it somewhere,...... and the oldtimers used to say: "There are three things that can happened when you attempt to throw a forward pass, and only one which would be a completion can be good. The other two possible results, an incompletion or a QB sack, must be considered bad. On the other hand when running the ball, the odds are 50/50 that the result will be good." Of course, the modern game has evolved to where offense led by the intellectual quality of the forward pass wins and defense which goes hand-in-hand with running the football is just too difficult and time consuming to be much fun.

Correction - 4 things can happen when you throw the football:

    1) Complete the pass
    2) Incomplete pass
    3) Sack
    4) Turnover by interception or sack/fumble

And if you are in the NFL, a Bullshit illegal touching penalty to give an automatic first down

    7. Offensive holding
    8. Defensive holding
    9. Illegal man down field
    10. Too many men on the field

    Etc.

Lists of "x amount of things can happen when you do y with the football" are always lacking.
