Got a chance to check out the dogs in person last night (flew out from the south for a few days, lovely city)

Just wanted to comment real quick on the in game entertainment at Husky Stadium.

I thought the Emoji cam was fantastic. I really enjoyed the BECU ad they played a few times as well, nice little jingle there.

Also though it was really cool to tease the students to stay in their seats for a special surprise and then they got little Itty bitty UW flags (jealous, I wanted one).

But shining moment of the night was when everybody turned their flashlights on their phones on and held their phones up high. I've not seen anything like that in SEC country. Amazing. Astonishing. SEC gameday environment could learn a thing or two from you our dogs and the gameday staff. So cool.

Just wish they'd bring back the Oberto Beef Jerky boat races or Chevron (with Techron) car races, those are so much fun.

Lastly, so glad we have places like the zone where you can head out at halftime and grab a nice beverage and some good food before heading back to your seat with 11:38 left in the 4th quarter.

Thank you Jennifer and team!!!!

Cohen is on the record with the halftime exodus being her #1 gameday (champions) experience priority. Hot tip Jen - sell fucking booze in the stadium and these dipshits will stop leaving. Don’t get me wrong, fuck our fans for leaving early and throwing away a surprisingly strong home field advantage that we had in the first half last night, but selling booze will remedy almost all of it.

I used to think of it as a booze thing, but now I think it's more that every game 10k people show up where they looking at it as a entertainment event just like going to the movies, casino, bowling, karaoke night at the bar, etc and once they aren't enjoying themselves enough for whatever reason just leave.

Last night at half it was rainy/windy/the game looked over, etc etc they saw enough and bolted.

We had 4 guys leave in front of us with 8 minutes left in the 4th, got there mid 2nd quarter.

If Jen Cohen can fix the cultural attendance problems that are UW football, she is wasting her talent. Companies in America would pay her 20 times her current salary just in consulting bullshit fees.

It goes far beyond booze at this point.

This is a great, spot on post.

I agree. The UW grad demographic is no longer one that lends itself to giving a shit about football. The non-grad fans have transitioned to blowing half their paycheck on nose bleeds at the Clink. So we have who we have in the stands. Might as well get them drunk and monetize the whole thing.

I agree they need to make it feel like the fans are part of the team. I’ve seen Coker and the TSIO guys hit on this point when talking about players pumping the crowd up, etc.

This is the whole idea behind the 12s... that the fans are literally a twelfth player on the field.

I’m not saying we need to recreate the 12s (please no) but I think there’s some room to make it clear the fans need to be involved.

There's nothing on display to get pumped up about. The offense is either a shitfest or a snoozefest. The defensive philosophy is let you drive 70 yards and kick a field goal. Special teams need to be watched with eyes closed. You don't need to sell booze to keep people in seats. Play exciting football and fans will come and stay in their seats.

If you make a household income over 50K, you shouldn't be allowed in. I think that should be a rule.

We need a lot more rabid (poor) blue collar people in that place.

Eh I think it goes deeper than this. We’ve struggle with a lot of these same issues even with a more exiciting product like 2016, for example.

I think there are a lot of contributing factors as have been previously mentioned but it all defaults to the quality of the product on the field and let's face it this team is boring as hell. We schedule shitty out of conference opponents that nobody wants to watch then back that up with a style from our team that nobody wants to watch.

This kind of reminds me of an early DJ team. Spotty offense but winning defense (but James also won special teams). When Pete gets all three phases in sync, he will begin to make the playoffs on a semi regularly basis. It took James a while to realize that great teams have an offense every bit as good as their defense.

Interesting point you make here. I started going to games when I was five years old (1976). From 1976-1980, my dad and I sat somewhat near the tunnel. Rabid fans. From 1981-1986, we sat in the south side upper deck right near the east goal line. BLUE COLLAR people all around us, loud and rowdy. I remember a longshoreman named Arnie who sat right in front of us. Whenever he got irritated, he'd shout "C'MON MILLEN!! DO SOMETHING!!! FUCK!!!!"

In 1987, we moved to the new upper deck about the 20 yard line. First game was against Stanford. Huge pre game ceremony, a bazillion balloons released into the air. I was 16 years old. Early in the game, something exciting happened. I jumped up screaming. Felt a tap on my shoulder. Got told to sit down and settle down, or words to that effect. Totally different culture.

You want the place to actually be rowdy, you get the hood rats in there.

My pops would be rollin' over in his grave if he saw how that crowd bailed at halftime. Of course, he would have been asked to leave by other "fans" by the time Stanford pulled within 10.
