But you can't blame the attacker's religion, because that's Islamophobia. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/02/world/middleeast/egypt-coptic-christians-ambush.html

The problem is both sides want it to be all or nothing.

If Islam compelled most (or even 25% like often claimed) to be terrorists or radicals you wouldn't have 7 million Christians in a country like Egypt with 62 million Muslims. Islam would have wiped them out generations ago. So it's not just Islam.

OTOH, there definitely are more attacks like this by Islamic groups globally then those who espouse other faiths (though there certainly are atrocities committed by Christians and Buddhist and Hindus and perhaps Jews though that one is more debatable IMO but obviously there's a much smaller sample of them as well).

There clearly is a correlation between Islam and violence that is beyond "it's just like every other religion" nonsense. There also are hundreds of millions of peaceful Muslims out there.

    Both can be true.

Abundance rules the day, as always.

Unfortunately too many of those hundreds of millions just keep looking the other way and dismissing the notion that there is a problem with their own religious teachings that lead to this kind of violence, today.

As I've pointed out numerous times, if the violence, enabling and apologizing for it were true of only 5% of all muslims in the world, the 95% of the peaceful muslim population would've crushed it a long time ago. Unfortunately about 45% remain in utter denial that their religion has inherent contradictions and problems, and will not publicly oppose, condemn, or fight against the most radical elements within their religion. Why, you might ask? Because their Prophet commanded them against doing so, and therein lies the existential problem.

Countries like Afghanistan, Algeria, or recently the example of Syria and Iraq have fought against radical movements. It's not as simple as you are describing it. All this is mixed with local politics, it's not black and white, violent on one side peaceful on the other.

There remains a huge problem of denial and obfuscation in the Muslim community at large. Watch how Hondo weighs in on the subject for concrete proof of that fact.
