Was going to vote Cash for obvious reasons but when I clicked this thread my iTunes randomed Amarillo By Morning and I took that as a sign from the spirits. Not kidding. Not pissing off the astral plane.

George Strait just can't touch Cash as a cultural icon or someone who has tremendous success across multiple decades. I grew up on GS but couldn't tell you a song he had after Pure Country in the early 90s.

Easy come easy go 1993
I can still make Cheyenne 1996
I agree though that after Cheyenne, his new stuff never reached the same level.
Shit was rigged by the bracket maker to get George Straight into the finals. Fuck it, Disqualification of both finalists. Waylon Jennings is your country bracket winner!

Cash may have more of an overall reach as a cultural icon across a larger landscape ... but King George quite possibly has a stronger reach in his segment

Agree. Johnny Cash was always country music that rock fans could get behind. Whereas King George is more for the country first crowd but he dominated that market.
well I think Waylon Jennings should have won - so being the totally logic person that I am - George Straight has 9 letters the same as WJ and Johnny Cash only has 7 - easy decision GS
I would have done percentages but that would involve maff

George Strait has 60 No.1 hits and Johnny has 13. No 1 hits in the 80's, 90's, 00's and this last decade.
