The defense does a lot right ...

But for as much as people shit on Browning for his issues (and fairly so), the defense has shit the bed in key spots more than many would care to admit

My only complaint with the defense (outside of the absentee pass rush cause recruiting) is the inability to adjust schemes when needed. The scheme works fantastically most of the game - special even. In the situations where you have to get an immediate stop you have to quit bending and sell out for a stop right now. This is in no way the players fault it's 100% on the defensive coaches for not adjusting.

There's no reason why this scheme can't be kept in place but with the ability to adjust when you need to get the ball back with the game on the line. This needs to happen immediately.

Kawasaki used to make good half time adjustments, problem is jimmy still needs more time
Halftime adjustments aren't the problem. Late fourth quarter adjustments are the problem (Cal, ASU last year, arguably overtime at Oregon).

Uh, quality teams have a connection on both sides of the ball. We have an offense that is weak and needs as many opportunities to score as the defense can give them. And you say the defensive scheme that we run works fantastically well yet is exactly the wrong scheme given the anemic offense. Our defense should be busting balls to get the ball back to the offense yet we are content to play rubberband and limit our already limited offense. Man I don't get your thinking at all on this one.
The defense's job is to keep points off the bored.

The offenses job is to score points.

    It's hard.
And how is that working so far?
    The offense is failing.

Let me put it this way - the 84 defense won a game when the offense had 3 first downs

    That's a great defense.

We don't have one. We have a scheme

Intellectual football on both sides of the ball makes for a soft fucking losing shit team

I'm not calling this the 84 defense.

It's plenty good enough to be 8-1, at least though.

    The offense is the issue.

Do you think the game may have changed since 1984?
Yes and no. The team that wins in the trenches won then, and still wins now. You can’t survive having a shitty QB these days though.
Right, and you're not winning any games only getting 3 first down.

It's a completely different era with the rules, greater understanding and development of the passing game, tempo, spacing, etc.

Nobody's winning that kind of game these days.

Great as it was the 84 defense also gave up more in regulation in a game than the 18 defense has. People forget that. Thankfully the offense showed that game against Cuog.

    Do you have a point?
