What would have been so bad about trying to get a few more runs in? The worse that happens is you get stopped, Oregon calls a time out, you miss the kick and they have 30 seconds to drive the field. If you had an NFL kicker, bad strategy. But with a walkon, it is worth the risk.

Well the worst that could happen is a fumble and second worst would be a negative play but still.
2011 Boise State loss to TCU with a potential national title game shot on the line eerily similar.
CP had 20 seconds left, a timeout, and 3rd and 5 from the 20. He centered the ball for his freshman kicker. Who missed wide right.
And that was with Kellen Moore.
He's obviously a pessimist by nature. When you have that personality as a coach your first inclination is to avoid bad things happening. To him a fumble occurring outweighed positive yards gained for an easier kick. It's who he is. I'd be surprised if it changes but who knows. If it doesn't, I think we can expect more close game disappointments in the future. Essentially he's playing for the other team to fuck up rather than going and taking it.
Should have scored in OT, should have made a stop in OT, should’nt have committed so many penalties that sustained Oregon’s last drive in the 4th quarter, shouldn’t set up the kicker for failure, special teams is trash, shouldn’t have lost a winnable game. Fuck this team, tsio, Gregory has got to go.
