Day 11 Hot Takes

- First team offensive line was Trey Adams at left tackle with Henry Roberts at left guard, Nick Harris at center, Matt James at right guard and Kaleb McGary at right tackle.

- Aaron Fuller - Fuller had a bunch of touchdowns today in team and 7v7 work. He got open and combined with Jake Browning to form a formidable duo.

- Jake Browning - As we mentioned in the Dawgman Radio podcast, Browning appears to be dialing things in. He looked much sharper on Tuesday, hitting receivers in stride and making good, quick decisions.

- Ty Jones - Jones made a couple of nice catches, but hit was his great block on Jordan Miller to spring Salvon Ahmed for a big gain that really stood out.

- Benning Potoa'e looked really good toward the end of the practice coming off the edge and getting pressure that forced Browning to have to step up in the pocket and right into the waiting arms of Tevis Bartlett.

- Two minute drill, offense behind by seven with 75 seconds left and no time outs left, 65 yards to go for a touchdown. On the first series, Jake Browning led the first team to a few first downs, but couldn't get them much further. He took a key touch sack from Tevis Bartlett and they couldn't recover. Jake Haener fared worse, as the second play of the series with the twos ended up in a Keith Taylor pick. Browning then led his guys to a two-yard TD strike to Aaron Fuller and then Peyton Henry drilled a 37-yard kick to ensure the tie.

- Peyton Henry was 5 for 7. He hit the right upright from 37 yards out during the final team period but that was the only blemish for Henry until the final team gassers. And he absolutely ripped a 51-yarder through the uprights and it looked like it could have been good from 10 yards farther.

- Chris Petersen and Bob Gregory gave Whitford and Race Porter a chance to bury the returners deep, and Whitford's knuckle-punts were consistently downed inside the 10, if not the 5. Every time one of the knuckle punts hit the ground, it checked straight up, like a pitching wedge in golf. It was remarkable. And earlier in practice when they were able to air their legs out a little, both Whitford and Porter were hitting punts between 45 and 55 yards when asked to punt in the traditional style.

- Petersen gave the younger players on both sides a game: the offense would get four plays to score from the 11-yard line. Whoever lost, that side would have to run a gasser. Led by Jacob Sirmon, he handed the ball off three times to Malik Braxton, who eventually ripped off a run from six-yards out to score. The whole offense ran on to the field in celebration as the defense ran their gasser. The joy was short-lived, however, as the offense had to run a gasser after Van Soderberg missed his third field goal attempt (the first two were good), and then the defense had to run one last time after Henry's 42-yard field goal attempt missed wide left to end practice.

I hope Soderberg will look back fondly on his time in college getting a free education while his walk-on peers handle the job he was brought in to do.

The true test will be if Patrick Henry can convert those tricky 25 yarders
