USC 247:

"According to a source familiar with the situation, the USC football players are not coming out of the summer exactly where they wanted to be. The team was tested for body compositions and the results were not ideal, with most players either maintaining or losing muscle with additional fat gained from the spring.

Our source felt the team’s morning lifts may have contributed to the problem, making it harder to eat correctly before and after those early workouts. In the spring, the team lifted in the afternoon and had better opportunities for higher level nutrition before and after their workouts.

Hearing about these results after Pac-12 Media Day, with all of the stories about Porter Gustin and his ridiculous nutrition regimen is a little surprising. Gustin has taken a leadership role when it comes to nutrition and workouts, but he is just one guy and he simply can't help everyone on the team.

With fall camp starting today, we will ask around and see if there is any concern among the players and coaches. It may just be a minor setback, but it will be something that needs to get addressed going forward."
