Rap Battle 80's Bracket Round 1: KRS-One (6) vs LL Cool J (11)

One of the originators of gangsta rap, Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone was half of Boogie Down Productions with DJ Scott La Rock (RIP) until Scott got capped. KRS-One then ironically started the Stop The Violence movement. But before all that he was a legendary emcee.

A study in contradictions, KRS-One was a student of Hare Krishna yet one of the founders of battle rap, and known for being highly confrontational in his lyrics. Always a huge critic of commercial mainstream rap then cut a solo album (I Got Next) in 97 featuring Puff Daddy and punk music.

Perhaps more recognized now for his mediocre acting and fashion icon status (whatever happened to FUBU anyway?) Ladies Love Cool J is easily one of the most commercially successful and most well known rappers from the 80's. A legendary panty dropper, LL probably holds the record for most hours spent rapping with his shirt off. Dude made albums well into the 2000's but the huge hip hop hits dried up by the late 90's. LL could really flow too before he started making ballads.
