Just remember, Mike Leach took the job in Pullman when no one else would even return a call.
If you still are not convinced, I ask you this: where would Washington State be right now had Mike Leach not taken the job? What other head coach did the Cougs have a realistic shot at in 2012 that could resurrect the sunken titanic?
They were trying to decide between Saban and Belichick but hadn't made up their mind.
Pat Hill waited for WSU’s call—quite obviously, it never came. Am told Hill would have crawled through glass—naked—for the job.
Hill might have raised a sunken tug. The Titanic? Not so much.
Chris Petersen is a top 5 coach. I’m not convinced all the widely considered top 3 could do what Petersen did, with what Petersen had. I do think Petersen could replicate their success at their universities though. WSU fans may be delusional but Oregon fan are outright dipshits and now some of the most jealous fans out there.

That's not that far off or crazy. I think some are better suited to some situations than others. That said, it's also possible that he wouldn't perform at Bama what Saban has. His niche may be getting less than unreal levels of talent across the board to play at a higher level than the collective would normally achieve, while at the same tim doing nothing more, or even as much, as others might do with the all-world talent. Said another way, it may take a hard ass like a Nick Saban to run Bamers like Bamers.
