Rift Emerges Among Democrats Over Leftward Shift

Since Hillary Clinton lost to President Donald Trump, the loudest voices in the Democratic Party have been jockeying to see who can tout the most liberal policies. Sen. Chris Coons is over it.

The Delaware Democrat this week launched a one-man campaign imploring his party to exchange “pie-in-the-sky” promises such as abolishing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, or ICE, for pragmatic policies. Without naming names, the subject of his ire was clear: Democratic colleagues aiming to win favor from the party’s liberal base as they test out 2020 presidential bids.

“Some members of our party, I fear, are instead taking the easy road, and proposing ideas that might sound great in a tweet, like free college, and free health care,” Mr. Coons said in a speech to New Democracy, a centrist Democratic group.

“If the next two years is just a race to offer increasingly unrealistic proposals, to rally just those who are already with us, our strongest supporters, it’ll be difficult for us to make a credible case we should be allowed to govern again,” he warned.

“The Democratic tent better be really big and there better not be litmus tests or we’ll never defeat Trump and regain congressional majorities,” said Matt Bennett, a co-founder and senior vice president at Third Way, a centrist Democratic think tank.

Mr. Coons’s sharply worded critique of the party’s left wing was unusual because while many congressional Democrats privately agree with him, few are willing to say so publicly.

Anyone who says they want to abolish ICE is fucktarded. The majority of the voters are dimwits and all they hear when that's repeated is "open borders". Even tho no one is saying open borders.
Sure, so what is the reasonable "centrist" Democratic platform alternative? I'm still waiting to hear it.
You don't want to hear it. It's very easy to find. There's 450 plus Democrats running for Congress this fall. It's not hard to find the platform. But all you want to hear is the few fucktarded fringe candidates and paint that across everyone.

That was the poont of the WSJ article. If a sitting Dem Senator is taking shots—albeit airsoft shots—within the tent about this, it's a problem. "The majority of the voters are dimwits." How hard are those dimwits digging to find the platform?

Except that part of the party leadership just got knocked off by that "fringe" of populism. Who would you say is the "leader" of the Democratic party right now and what is the "heart" of the Dems platform?

I'd say they have a serious problem and a split of interests as I laid out.

I'm honestly interested in how this all plays out. I think we are seeing something as big as when the Dixiecrats migrated but I have no idea what the outcome will be.

Continued democrat lunacy and idiocy should be encouraged in order to hasten the end of that party. They will forever be stained by the Jim Crow laws they created and the KKK, which they founded. Their modern day attempts to circumvent the democratic process on social issues by ramming progressive pet projects through the courts is over. They've revealed their authoritarian tendencies in other ways, in their support of 'hate speech laws,' their attempts to make illegal laws (NJ) that allow for the seizure of firearms in contradiction to the 2nd amendment, their opposition to term limits, their race baiting on college campuses with things like 'white privilege workshops,' their allegiance with socialists and Islamic fascists like Hamas and Hezbollah. The fact that they don't give a shit about Americans and want to open the borders for political gain. It would be better for the country if they pack up their shit and just LEAVE. They're finished. The few sane democrats that are left will need to start another party imo. There is no case the current democrats can make as to why they should ever be trusted to govern again.

They aren't digging to find it. Democrats have an identity problem for sure. And Trump is winning with his "guy at the end of the bar" platform.

And Tarrifs. Tarrifs were sacred to the GOP for about the first 80 years or so.

I don't endorse the GOP either. They just happen to be on the right side of history at this point in time, so I'm lending my firepower to them. The GOP is just a tool to be used for the higher purpose of preserving the republic.

    I didn’t vote for Trump.

I distanced myself from the corporate wing of the DNC. Walk away is about completely changing your political ideology because of some YouTube video claiming the media lies about Trump. Some of you need to learn the difference.

You said you were voting for Trump, what made you change your mind?

And I'm not saying you walked away, don't twist. Just saying you're an example of how the DNC can turn people off. Some get more turned off than others. See @RaceBannon for details.

This obviously happens the other way as well, I've seen plenty of conservatives swing liberal. I've swung a lot more to the center myself. I can't stomach the GOP right now and I really can't stomach the evangelical pimping of the GOP right now.
