Is this a big deal? I know nothing about row boat. I need shit spelled out - this is like winning the:

    Toilet Bowl
    Maaco NOGAF Bowl
    Alamo Bowl
    NY6 Bowl
    Rose Bowl
    NC

    TIA

It's the oldest college sporting event in the world first held in 1839. So kind of like a Rose Bowl being the Grand Daddy of them All.

Believe that one is the highest level event for 8s for Universities and the international equivalent.

As the @whlinder mentioned this is the highest college only level race at Henley. The races that are higher level- e.g., Grand Challenge Cup - are open to crews that have post college national team rowers.

Both UW and Yale sent their backups, no? Looks like we had our chance to win the natty but choked vs Yale, innit?

For the most part this is accurate. UW's crew at Henley was mostly 2 and 3 deeps guys and same with Yale. It wouldn't have been possible to have both schools send boats comprised of their IRA (natty) 1st Varsity 8's. Yale, for example, had 6 guys in their 1st Varsity 8 who are foreigners and most of those dudes are off doing national team stuff this summer. UW's boat had 6 Americans and 2 Euros, but a lot of those guys are off doing national team stuff as well.

Still this was an impressive showing of our? overall depth and bodes well for next year. Yale is going to be very tough to beat as long as Steve Gladstone remains their coach; he's basically the greatest crew coach in the modern era when it comes to recruiting international rowers.

    Motorboating > rowboating

    Motorboating > rowboating

    Why not both.gif

I've rowboated and motorboated in the same day.
