It's a strategy. He's a billion times smarter than you. Only one of those bills to my knowledge contained adequate border security provisions that would satisfy the base. The other was a shameless, open borders, mass immigration amnesty bill. Neither one was going to pass and he knew it. He offers tepid support but nothing big, enough to show he was willing to negotiate. Paint the democrats as the obstructionists that they are for not even supporting the shitty establishment Ryan bill. Paint them with the dirty brush of Merkel, pigeonhole them as open border lunatics. They've done that already to themselves, but make sure everyone knows it. Kick the can into the election cycle because it's going to hurt a radicalized democrat party that has completely embraced socialism and has totalitarian aspirations for America. Gain more seats in both houses, or at minimum maintain majorities, then muscle through the real change after that party has had the living shit kicked out of them in the elections, so much so that they are forced to alter their current positions-- that is, the talking points they receive from the radical socialist left. HTFH.

Prediction: they are going to get decapitated in the elections. They will be running away from open borders and other radical positions so fast it will make your head spin. If they don't, that party--the party of the Ku Klux Klan, Jim Crow, open borders, restricted speech, confiscation of guns, and other radical unpopular and hated policies, is finished, and everyone will be better off for it.
