We may have a explanation after all

Belichick has made risky moves before, but benching Butler made no football sense. If this story is true, then I could maybe see why he was benched.

If true, mad props to Belichick. He demands nothing less than absolute focus on the task at hand. We can debate 'oh, but weed isn't that big of a deal' - it's a matter of keeping the troops lasered in on the goal.

Butler will look good in a Bengals uniform next year.

For most programs weed is not a big deal. But Belichick requires players to follow the "Patriot Way". I wouldn't be surprise if Belichick benches a guy over saying the wrong thing in a interview. You follow the Patriot Way" or you aren't a Patriot, plan and simple. This focus and attention to detail is why the Patriots have had the most successful stretch in NFL history. You have the 60's Packers, the 70's Steelers, 80's 49ers, and 90's Cowboys, but never has a team been as dominant in consecutive decades as the Patriots.

Butler also blew off Media day on Monday. While not in itself a big deal, insubordination twice in one week? During the Superbowel?
