Dan Wolken | USA Today: Once again, Nerd Nation has beaten Team Nike, left it wondering how many more monuments to excess it needs to build, how many more uniform combinations or millions in facilities it will need to finally get the ultimate prize. Because after No. 6 Stanford's 26-20 victory against No. 2 Oregon on Thursday, a game not nearly as close as the score indicated, the question is now more obvious than ever.

I wouldn't be surprised if David Shaw is snatched up after this year either by USC or the NFL.
1) Stanford has a ridiculous class of underclassmen on the OLine. Two years ago they had like six 4 and 5 star linemen commit. They also have nationally recruited 4-star Barry Sanders Jr. waiting in the wings at RB and the #2 QB in the nation currently committed to follow up Hogan when he leaves. That idiot Rector looks pretty good too. For the past 3 years we've been saying "Player A (Gerhart, Luck, the TEs) is gone.Shaw will show his true colors and Stanford will fade away now." Hasn't happened yet. Stanford has a ton of backups that would start for UW and a coach who is a winner and plays a manly breed of football.
2) Oregon doesn't look to be fading but they have something they haven't had in many years- a head coach who has been a loser in the past. Helfrich coached for Dirk Koetter while he was sucking at ASU and was OC at Colorado when they sucked ass as well. Let's not pretend that he was doing anything except holding Chip's coffee (and occasionally his penis while no one was looking) while he was OC at Oregon. If he fails and Knight wants him gone for a "big name" coach after he goes 9-3 or something, expect a complete turnover at Oregon. All those old coaches have been there so long because promotions have always come from within. Remember, a great team can fall quickly. Look at UW when Lambo took over and USC when Kiffin took over. Coaching is a huge factor in on-field performance as we all know.
Only real worry would be replacing Murphy and Skov who are potentially All Americans. Other than that, most of their team comes back. They should be a top 10-15 team again.

They're kind of annoying but if it's between whOregon & them, I'll take TreeIndiansdarkred's success any day.
Now after this game I'm a believer although Harbaugh set him up nicely. This is a Senior team(meaning Harbaugh's guys). I could see him doing great things at USC but I wouldn't be shocked if he tried to step up to a bigger school and fall on his ass.
Give us some time and Sark will take us back to the promised land.
If there had been internet back during DJ's era, you would have wanted him fired too.
