Art Briles

I don't think he'd come but where does he rank on your candidate list?

  • A poster on doogman asked a legitimate question of how Briles was able to turn Baylor into a perennial top 25 program who will probably win their conference this year, and Sark is still mediocre. It was a legit question, this is fucking Baylor we are talking about. They have always been terrible.

The doogs say, he gets to recruit in Texas, plays an easy schedule, Baylor has better QB's than Keith Price. These guys have never ending excuses for Sark. They act like it is impossible to win at Washington, but winning at Baylor is fucking easy. I hate our fan base. The reason Briles has done what he has is because he is a good fucking coach who earned his way from high school head coach, to assistant, to the Houston job, to Baylor. Good coaches win no matter where they fucking coach.

I can't wait for that thread to go *Poof* or that poster to earn a timeout.

Sad how good thought provoking questions aren't allowed over there.

First if he wanted to come. He won't though. Fuck, if we could just switch Sark with Art Briles I think we could get fast in a hurry. Who is a better offensive mind than Briles?

They're playing some defense there now too. He'd be a great choice, but I agree, he's not going anywhere.
  • UW's recruiting rankings are right there with Stanford and Oregon. They are top 10 while UW is 7-6 because they get highly touted lineman while UW doesn't.

These doogs don't even realize how stupid it is to say, "Yeah, but Briles gets to recruit in Texas." Sark has pulled in much higher ranked classes than Briles. Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, every SEC school, Nebraska, ASU, and many more had first pick on Texas recruits before Baylor. Baylor was so far fucking down on the totem pole. They can't even come up with legitimate excuses. These fucking idiots should stop trying to talk football and just nod in agreement when someone who knows what the fuck they are talking about tells them something.

Baylor is recruiting better now, but here are Baylor's rankings on Scout. 2009- 44th, 2010- 51st, 2011-52nd, 2012- 30th, 2013- 26th. They are at 14th this year, and recruiting is getting better because talented players want to play for winners. Baylor has become a program that wins.

I was looking at ours going back to 2007, and every f****** class is top 30 ( most are top 15 or 20) except for 2009 and this class ( which is TBD). Wtf do we have to show for it?!?! These Doogs are so dense it the defies logic.
  • Doogs are fucking stupid. I mean look at Stanford? They have never won shit. Then they hit on a coach in Harbaugh and it's looking like they hit on another coach in Shaw.

This shit isn't hard to figure out. UW is there in talent, they went toe to toe with Stanford. If they had the right coach maybe our biggest win of the year won't be when Oregon loses like it is every fucking year.

What Briles has done is incredible. When he took over, Baylor was barely operating as a Div 1 program. There was virtually no support from boosters or fans, the athletic department was in financial trouble, and they were competing for recruits against all the schools you've noted, doing so from freaking Waco, TX and with absolutely atrocious facilities. Now he has arguably the top performing program in the Big 12, plenty of financial support and an excellent stadium and facilities project in work. They are finally a legitimate option for any kid wanting to play in that league. There are very few college football coaches over the ages who have been at the center of the accomplishments that he has. Failing to recognize that is plain ignorant.

    Great points @SouthernDawg.

He also took over Houston I think two years after they went 0-fer and then won 10 games in his 4th season.

Briles acted like owen12 never happened.

  • His conference record is pretty bad but most of that was his first two years.

I noticed at both jobs he didn't make his mark until year four. I typically like my coaches doing that in year three.

I'll say this though at least he made his mark in year four. While Sarkisian has still in year five yet to make his mark.

He has yet to have that breakthrough season.

He made his mark that Alamo Bowl season then proved himself last year when he lost RGIII yet improved offensively.

I mean Baylor is a shitty program that Leach while coaching his shitty program was pissed off at his guys for barely beating Baylor.

Leach describing their season reminds me of this current UW season. Starting with the first moral victory loss.

I don't disagree, but you can't look at those recruiting rankings in a vacuum. For some unfathomable reason, Washington got away from recruiting and developing top offensive and defensive linemen, a trend that started with Neuheisel. Willingham is just plain stupid. How anyone could listen to that guy and not immediately understand this is beyond me. However, among the coaches we've had during this historically long down turn, two have been former quarterbacks and one a fill in guy whose specialty relied on a strong O-line and yet none of them practiced what should have been intrinsic to all of them, especially the former quarterbacks. They all know that you get your ass kicked by badass D-lineman, and have very little chance to compete at the highest level without badass O-lineman. The only explanation that makes sense is that they have all failed to instill the proper vision and culture and have likewise failed to hire the right people to execute that vision. Until they get this fixed, the Huskies only chance to compete will hinge on the conference being down across the board.

Right now he'd be the only offensive guy in my top 5, though I'm reconsidering David Shaw (who is almost surely not leaving Stanford but could perhaps be bought).

Shaw's star is shining bright. I've noted some dislike for the guy in here, but I really like him. He does make mistakes, but he owns up to them and much more importantly, he corrects them. He's also probably the smartest coach in the league. The importance of that is hard to over state. You really can't ask for much more, but I don't see him leaving Stanford for anything other than an NFL job. Walsh, Harbaugh, and (let's say LIFPO) Shaw. Not a bad suite of coaches sharing a common institution.
