Using recruiting data to predict Fiesta and CFP games...

Usually @CokeGreaterThanPepsi has this data up on www.theseasonisover.com but he must be extra busy over the holidays.

So per (FS) 247 Sports, Pedo State has signed 41 Four/Five Star kids between 2013- 17 compared to 32 for us. That's about 1.8 more per class and we know how much getting an extra 2 or so DDY 3's can dramatically change a class's overall potential. Both Pete and Franklin are great coaches, but given the small (but noticeable) talent gap, I am predicting PSU in a close one, say, 35-28.

Meanwhile, the Georgia Bull Dwags, despite being a Tier II program, have inked like 72 Four/Five Star Kids over the past five years, so I see them knocking off OU and playing Bamma for the SEC Championship Part Deaux game in Hotlanta.

All sarcasm aside, one point that I like to make a lot in these parts is that going back to Utah in 2015, Pete has not lost to a team with inferior talent based on TBS rankings. ASU and Stanford both recruited at about the same level as us give or take from 2013- 17 and USC and Bamma play in a different pool. And in the case of PSU we lost to a team slightly better than us TBS-wise, and it's clear they have a good coach. Yes, we should have been able to "do better" and find a way to win, but we didn't lose to a shittier opponent. Interestingly enough, both Pete and Franklin has parlayed the successes of 2016/17 into big time leveling up with the 2018 classes of both schools.

Consider the profiles of the past 3 tier II programs to win or play for a NT:

    2017 Georgia
    - signed 72 Four/Five Stars between 2013- 17
    - Frosh QB but appears to be elite
    - 2nd year coach but appears to be trending towards elite

    2014 Oregon
    - Signed 46 Four/Five Stars between 2010- 14
    - 1st Round Heisman QB
    - Shitty coach but just 2 years removed from Chip

    2010 Auburn
    - Signed 34 Four/Five Stars between 2006- 10
    - 1st Round Heisman QB
    - 2010 Coach of the year who got fired thereafter
    -

So just maybe 2020 or 21 could be speshial if we ink 20 Four/Five Stars between 2019-20 and 1 of Yankoff, Eason, or Sirmon wins the Heisman and looks like lock for the 1st round.

Interesting stuff, but I’d put Clemson in tier 2 as well. I’m sure their numbers are similar, and they had a 1st round QB last year.

My bad. Climpson needs to be listed. They had 40 plus 4 stars "in progress" last year plus 1st round QB.

Yeah, Climpson was at like 40. I recall DDY and Coker saying that we were at around 32, and all we needed to do was get two more a year to make up the difference and be like a Climpson (or Peak Oregon with low 40's).

Basically, we need to elevate over the ASU's types of the world and get out of the 28-35 bracket. Get up to the 40-45 bracket and then you are cooking with steam (provided you have the right corch). The 60-70 bracket is reserved for Ohio State, USC, Texas and half the SEC. 40-45 with the right corch (and QB) can get it done I think.

this might be a little doog ish but hear me out.

What if Sirmon and Yankoff split time at QB and Tie for first in Hiesman voting in 2020. would that be good for recruiting?
If Sirmon and Yankoff finish 1/2 for the Heisman voting in 2020 or 21 we might have a shot a Natty.
