Blue State exodus

With Illinois’ tax base literally walking away, less and less people are there to foot the massive bill the Democratic politicians in the state have stuck on the remaining residents. They tried to hike taxes to compensate, but that only caused more people to pack up and leave for a less expensive place to live.
“As people leave the state, they take their pocketbooks with them. That means there are fewer Illinoisans to pay the bills,” said Orphe Divounguy, chief economist with the Illinois Policy Institute. “It’s worrying because if you have a declining population and a declining labor force, you will for sure have a further slowdown of economic activity going into 2018.”

The exodus of residents was most pronounced in New York, which saw about 190,000 people leave the state between July 1, 2016 and July 1, 2017, according to U.S. Census Bureau data released last week.

Lotsa ostriches out today.

I'm sure they are moving to Kansas.

But Wyoming had the largest exodus in percentage terms. The article also conveniently forgets about strong growth blue states like WA and OR and doesn't mention that NY and CA actually had population growth because of immigration. But yeah blue states are fucked. If you don't think that Washington or Oregon aren't going to have similar problems in 20-30 years when all the liberals that are making a shit ton of money today realize that politicians are coming for their money down the road and decide that being a snow bird living in a state where they aren't going to touch their money ... then I can't fucking help you.RedRocket said:

They should relocate to Hong Kong, where they belong. Easier to source their fake shit from the Shenzhen factories. Cheaper shipping from there to the US also.RaceBannon said:Amazon is already on the way out of Seattle er looking for a "second" HQ

I never said that the immigration was good or bad just pointing out that Doogie was using misleading stats. Places like Seattle, New York and San Francisco have a bigger problem with wealthy, legal immigrants anyways.Sledog said:

Property taxes and sales taxes should be slashed to 1/3 of present rates. Institute a third leg of revenue in a moderate income tax and abolish the B&O tax completely.
Then institute special tax incentive zones/port districts in places like Spokane and Vancouver and Tri-Cities so businesses will relocate there instead of Oregon/Idaho and watch the motherfucking state take off to the stratosphere.

Snowbirds would still pay property and sales tax in WA. The rich liberals would have to sell their houses and move entirely but it's not going to happen and it wouldnt matter anyways because there would just be a new post millennial generation that would fill the gap. Only reason this would change is if businesses left WA or OR in droves which I also don't see happening.Tequilla said:

Right. Washington, without an income tax, gives an incentive to have income here. Income tax in most states is way more than any property tax difference.RedRocket said:

Property taxes and sales taxes should be slashed to 1/3 of present rates. Institute a third leg of revenue in a moderate income tax and abolish the B&O tax completely.
Then institute special tax incentive zones/port districts in places like Spokane and Vancouver and Tri-Cities so businesses will relocate there instead of Oregon/Idaho and watch the motherfucking state take off to the stratosphere.
