Smith is why we lost this game. Sure our defense hasn't played up to their typical standard however we've only given up 23 so far and if Stanford scores again it isn't the defense's fault that Stanford started at like their own 30. Our defense is good enough on it's own to keep us in like 95% of games given an average offense. If our offense was anywhere close to that good we would be incredible and would only look mortal when our defense does not play up to themselves. Our offense sucks and people are pointing a finger at the defense because we have become wholly dependent on the defense to bail the offense out.
