I was dismayed originally. However, from http://movieweb.com/dark-tower-movie-trailer/ Even though there are eight books in Stephen King's series, the movie won't be adapting any of them directly. The movie will actually be taking place after the events of the books, but it will still be bringing the characters and elements that fans of the books know and love to the big screen.
It looks like they are staying faithful enough to the books to keep that crowd happy. I recognized elements from Books 1&2, and possibly parts from the very end? Which makes sense - you can't fit the entire thing into a single movie, but you need the beginning and end. Much of the middle could be cut, which is fine.
Some of the visual effects like Roland's gun wizardry look great. Although I'm guessing the movie will not be quite as "action-packed" as the trailer makes it seem.
I think Idris is one of the better actors out there right now. He was great in Beasts of No Nation. I don't like the innocent, fragile kid following him idea, right now.
