Smear campaign that discredits Thomas and gets him fired would be one way to do it.AIRWOLF said:

But it’s fine since Joey is a jerk. It’s going to be mellow losing a 5-Star edge rusher from 5 miles away.
No big deal.
How do you fix it?
Answers that involve a Lincoln Navigator or staff position for the coach aren't acceptable.
Another would be to start holding 'minority coaching mentor days' (which I would prefer) and invite all local minority coaches to get a special day of mentoring from our minority coaches (dealing with specific challenges) then some general mentoring from Pete and the rest of the staff.
Have speakers, etc. Take it really seriously.

As for the Garfield issue specifically it seems like Joey Thomas just wants to appear important. Invite him to pointless events, hold a camp and market him as one of the headlining coaches, offer his guys PWO spots, show up at his home games, basically make meaningless yet public overtures that he can puff his chest about.
-
I'm not really in for this, if dude really is dirty we? don't need to start endorsing him.FremontTroll said:As for the Garfield issue specifically it seems like Joey Thomas just wants to appear important. Well Dennis wants to do the opposite which is fine too. I was just thinking there might be a way to massage his ego without actually endorsing him in any meaningful way.dnc said:

I would actually vote for option A. Pete would probably never do it but I'd love to see Jimmy Lake swing his dick around in the situation and knock that little shit nugget down a peg.Dennis_DeYoung said:

This makes sense. Sucking up to high school coaches is an unseemly, but necessary part of being an FBS head coach.FremontTroll said:As for the Garfield issue specifically it seems like Joey Thomas just wants to appear important. Nobody was better at it than Mack Brown. He was a mediocre coach, at best, and certainly didn't seem like a guy who would relate particularly well with 17-18 year olds, but his ability to ingratiate himself (and the Texas program) with high school coaches was legendary.
His style was homespun corny bullshit, but it was also calculated. That's why a buddy of mine always referred to him as a "small town mayor" type.
He was all about back slapping, remembering everybody's name (and in many cases, their kids' names), and trying to make them feel special. So a few minutes after Vince Young putting away the Rose Bowl, one of the first things Mack said when he hoisted up the trophy was that he dedicated the win to Texas high school football coaches.
Of course he was also utterly uncreative and not a particularly good evaluator or developer of talent. He also got lazy and entitled about recruiting, which led to UT falling into a pit of mediocrity around the end of his tenure, despite highly rated classes.
Petersen isn't the same type of guy, at all, but the lesson to always be selling HS coaches (particularly local ones) on the program is still a useful one.

Isn't Rainier Beach more black than those other schools? There's white tons of white kids at Garfield. The public high schools in Seattle range from single digit white (Rainier Beach, Cleveland, and Franklin) to majority white (Ballard, Roosevelt, W. Seattle, Ingraham, & Nathan Hale).
Rainier Beach 3%
Cleveland 7%
Franklin 8%
Chief Sealth 23%
Garfield 40%
West Seattle 52%
Nathan Hale 54%
Ingraham 55%
Roosevelt 69%

That is interesting. I would have guesstimated higher white %s for every school above 50% on that list.AIRWOLF said:

In the 60's the Central Area was still thriving. Yes, Blacks migrated south to the places mentioned in the 70's and 80's
Our son and daughter went to Rainier Beach. -
Where did the fence go? Apparently, any deal must include money for the wall.
-
This reminds me that Jimbo Fisher ≠ Gene Chizik. Jimbo Fisher = Mack Brown.
-
I bought in the central district 10 years ago and had one of the nicer houses on the block. Now it's the shittiest and whites are moving in so god damn fast. Gentrification isn't new around here but the transformation is almost complete. I seriously wonder where the black kids at Garfield live.RaceBannon said:In the 60's the Central Area was still thriving. Yes, Blacks migrated south to the places mentioned in the 70's and 80's

Here were a list of TSIO demands over the past couple years:
Pease gone (check).
Strausser gone (we were particularly emphatic on this one).
Get a OL coach who can recruit (check).
Smith gone (not quite sure how this happened, but thank god it did).
Strategize more in recruiting (check).
Add a FS black coach (check) to recruit BUCKs (roundabout check).
Use social media more effectively (getting there).
Honestly, I’m so optimistic about Pete because he does the needful. It may not always be as quickly as we’d like it, but I respect the fact that he gives his coaches a chance to right the ship (Malloe) and I’m sure his coaches love and respect him for that.
Quite honestly, I’m shocked at how closely our advice has been implemented. Not so much because Pete was wrong, but more that he was thinking the same way we were.
That Brock and Salk interview sealed the deal. -

He's not going to UW. So, forget it. Stanford, Bama or USC.
I doubt he even visits UW.
