Dealing with the Porters might not be a game Hopkins and Cohen are willing to play.

Hopkins has to create his culture next season, and it is likely easier to do that without Porter.

I believe the real reason Porter was the last one Hopkins called is that he wanted to lock in the other guys as 'special' - the turnaround guys for the hometown school. He closed them first (kind of the low hanging fruit approach). He got their commitment and sold them on him - probably said something like "look - you're going to be around for 2, 3, maybe 4 years - don't base your decision on a guy whose only going to be here 1. If he comes, great...if not, what school is the best fit? And if you answer is here, then you should be here *irregardless of what MPJ does".

If Porter's nose got bent out of shape being the last one called 1) he's not OKG and 2) even if he was consisdering staying, the new sheriff is in town and there's no favorites. Dude has coached Carmello and Lebron and Durrant - HDNGAF about Nathan Hale's greatest home schooler.

This. Securing Daejon and Nowell is much more important for building the program than taking a long shot at keeping MPJ for one year.

Even Kim is now suggesting that MPJ and his dad are not the kind of people you want around a program you are building

Uh oh, UW values were a big draw to him.

    "I'm a visualizer and a meditator".

    Fuck.

Phil Jackson says Hi!.... that shit actually works though.
True. When you can visualize Jordan, Pippen, Shaq and Kobe it works real well.
Dropping trou and taking a shit on the court actually works too when you have those guys.

Jackson was a great coach but all his zen bullshit had nothing to do with it.

Guiding principle: when people become successful as a result of the time-tested combo of talent, work and luck, they tend to start believing their own bullshit and convince themselves that every little thing they do is brilliant.
