"But Helfrich and his wife don’t appear to be in a rush to leave Lane County. According to county permit records, they’re nearing completion of a 10,400-square-foot mansion in the Coburg Hills."

Awkward. Why would you stay in the area?

He's from Oregon and he can live comfortably there the rest of his life without ever working again.

Fair point, but Eugene seems small enough that you'd have too may awkward encounters to want to stay. Suppose he's rich enough to not give a fuck.

That didn't stop Jody Runge from staying in town after she was dismissed as the women's coach. I think she now runs or used to run a bed and breakfast in Portland.

    Hmmm. It is still Oregon

From what I have seen of his salary he should be able to do that most anywhere.

I don't think he will be reviled. His whole schtick was the local boy who made it to his dream job. I see it similar to Lambo. He'll be popular as an ex coach when he slaps around his wife and kids.

    Too soon?

    Fixed

Gil Dobe could still kick anyone's ass. But he wouldn't kick Don James's ass because he thinks Don James is cool. But he could if he wanted to.
