GOAT

This grizzled scribe is finally giving up on Joe Montana and giving the due to the new GOAT, Tom Brady. I've watched all 51 Super Bowls and the Ice Bowl where the Packers beat the Cowboys and the Packers win over the Browns.

As a kid the Packers were the Gold Standard. 5 NFL championships by Lombardi and Starr with only one loss.

The Steelers got 4 out of 6

The Niners got 4 and Joe became the GOAT.

But what Brady has done is inarguable at this point. Yesterday was pretty special

I still have Lombardi at the top of the Coach GOAT though. When Bellichck can win 3 in a row we'll talk. And blowing the 2007 perfect season was unacceptable.

What the hell was going on out there?

Yep the 67 road might have been TUFF(er) once they added the title game against the AFL champ.

The five titles before 67 just don't compare to modern titles though. There were literally 14 teams in the league. It was barely one step above winning the Pac12.

These are horrible arguments. Nobody else won 3 in a row. Ever. Nobody won 5 until yesterday

Those 14 teams had Unitas and Jim Brown and the like.

Race was there when Otto Graham won 4 AAFC titles and 3 NFL titles.

I agree that Bill is the GOAT coach. In this day and age everything is set up to prevent dynasties and Bill just said "fuck you" going on two decades.

I'm not saying it was easy or that Lombardi wasn't great. Just saying the degree of difficulty for a dynasty is significantly higher now.

Players win games and coaches lose them. Brady and Bellicheck are the perfect storm. Brady wins often and Bellicheck doesn't lose very frequently.

Brady put himself on Jordan's level in my eyes.

That's what I texted to my dad. Brady is now in the pantheon with Jordan and DiMaggio.

I never knew DiMaggio won 9 championships until today. I was thinking that was an odd name because I see other CF's rated as better players in the all time rankings.

Baseball is such a weird game that deemphasizes winning as a criteria for great players.

DiMaggio won the World Series his first four years in the Major Leagues. I've read about him extensively and he was an asshole but always came through in the clutch.

Swaye's classic Thanksgiving Day poast should also be in the Pantheon - did you have your Dad read it ?

You were talking about all time greats in the pantheon...

And I thought Swaye's poast about his Thanksgiving Day (in Classics) was the best poast I've read on HH

So, I thought HH's best certainly belonged in any pantheon worthy of the name....

That brand of humor would be completely foreign to my dad. He would not get it at all.

    Mankind's Greatest Speeches / Writings:

    Jesus "Sermon On The Mount"

    Lincoln "Gettysburg Address"

Swaye: "Death Row vs Woodshed Pirates"

Had to list them alphabetically by author, wouldn't want to pick which was truly #1...

    So Dad isn't a depraved degenerate ?

In this case the apple has fallen far from the tree...fortunately
