Went back and checked, per Rivals, our first 5 star was James Aiono, 2009 class. We've had about twenty 4 star recruits. I was only able to go back to 2002.
As of now, he's going to take his official here next weekend. So unless he commits to SC and cancels we still might have a shot. The guys who take 10 bucks a month seem to think he's going to be a Ute. However, we (or most anybody) do not win recruits who hold SC offers. The only thing we have over USC is arguably the best Poly family atmosphere.

Isn't he also really into Jesus?. If he is truly into god, Utah has a good chance.

Hmmmmm ... what I'm just hearing. Jays mom didn't make the trip with him to SC, only he and his dad.
Mom is a big deal in Poly families. The Utah trip will include mom, dad and all siblings. Reading between the lines, SC was a fun roadie with dad on SC's dime.
But I'm biased and I'll hump all over the narrative that fits to my liking.
Edit, Yes, he's into Jesus. Look at the upper left in the photo. BYU already offered his 8th grader brother.
