just like with North Carolina, this is in no way surprising.

That doesn't change the fact that the house GOP tried to gut an independent watchdog.
But keep deflecting. -
Total bullshit story. After the BHO administration there is no such thing as ethics in Washington. Extinct animal.

Let's call this committee the "Ethics Committee" so that if anyone ever tries to cut it, people will get scared and think that ethics itself is going away.
Let's call this department the "Department of Education" so that if anyone ever tries to cut it, people will get scared and think that we are cutting the actual education our kids are receiving.
Let's call this act the "Affordable Care Act" so that if anyone opposes it or tries to cut it, people will get scared and think they're trying to take away affordable health care.
There should be a rule that you can't name government departments, committees, and pieces of legislature anything other than something generic, like "committee 5". It's what our founding fathers did...Amendment 1, amendment 2, etc...because I swear half the people supporting these various functions of government are only supporting it because of the name, which the media is constantly using to their advantage.
When I hear the word "committee", I think the opposite of ethics. -
so putting the house ethics committee in charge is better? stuff like this needs to be independent, and the only people who have a problem with it are the politicians.Fenderbender123 said:Let's call this committee the "Ethics Committee" so that if anyone ever tries to cut it, people will get scared and think that ethics itself is going away.

No agency or committee is independent if it can be dismantled or defunded by politicians.

it's a lot more independent than a committee run by politicians.
