So Browning is a sophomore

Updated by PostGameOrangeSlices
and I really dont see him leaving early for the NFL after next year. He is a pretty thin guy and seems to struggle when CBs or d line are good enough to throw off timing routes.
He struggled against USC, Colorado, and Bama. A lot.
Granted, our WRs are not physical and each looked about 30 lbs lighter than the Bama DBs. They could not get seperatation outside that one awesome post route by Pettis. The o line is scrappy, but really young. Maybe next year they could hold up better to Bama when Harris gets some more time in the weight room and roids.
We also abandoned the run way too soon. Yeah we werent breaking off 15 yard runs, but we were making it beyond the line of scrimmage for 2-3 yards with Gaskin and Coleman. You need to stick with it and those runs go for more late in the game when people are tired.
Im kind of rambling, but my point is this...is Browning a hindrance to the offense going forward? Or is his inefficiency in big time games more a product of sub par play calling, young o line, and lack of receiver seperatation?

He improved a ton this year over last year. He still has lots of room to improve. Hopefully he can make that similar jump next year and perform well against the good defenses we face.
He improved a ton this year over last year. He still has lots of room to improve. Hopefully he can make that similar jump next year and perform well against the good defenses we face.Sometimes with how critical this board is of everything it seems like it gets forgotten he was a true sophomore. I think it's because we are scarred from the Sark years, and think a player wont improve and will infact get worse the longer he stays
With this staff, assuming *any* second-year player won't continue to improve is FS. Especially a guy who works as hard as Browning.
Browning wasn't great in the Peach Bowl, obviously. He made one clearly disastrous decision, and missed on plenty of other throws. But after all the Brownsockery in November, I really feared he'd come out looking like a deer in headlights against Bammer. He didn't. The moment wasn't too big for him. He was merely imperfect.
Browning is never gonna be Vince Young. But he's a pretty deadly weapon already, and he's only been on campus two years. Also, he will never face another college D as dominant as that one -- not even when UW rematches with Bammer next year.

He was Jack Lockner bad yesterday.

Browning wasn't good, but Jack H Lockner went 4 for 20 against a fucking Bo Pelini coached team in Husky stadium. A team he would beat 4 months later in the Holiday Bowl. How Locker got drafted as high as he did is a mystery. With this staff, assuming *any* second-year player won't continue to improve is FS. Especially a guy who works as hard as Browning.CHRIST.

The problem is he is one of the biggest chokers I've ever seen and he's done it literally since his first game here.
The problem is mental.
I fear the brilliant cripple is correct. As someone said in another thread ( @BearsWiin ) Matt Leinart had a lot of college success as a noodle arm. We *might* be able to scheme around his weak arm, but you can't scheme out of shitting your skivvies in clutch situations. I think the guys who are winners under pressure are born that way. It isn't a learned skill. With this staff, assuming *any* second-year player won't continue to improve is FS. While every doog in doog-land is busy saying Jake Browning is good because he's our hero for lighting up shitty teams (and they ignore that he folds under any pressure whatsoever) - it should be recognized what he did after the first series yesterday. Here's an interesting thought...I wonder what Lockner would be able to do as a college qb with a team and coach this good.I meant Jack Lockner overall, not THAT Nebraska game.He wasn't good, but Jack H Lockner went 4 for 20 against a fucking Bo Pelini coached team in Husky stadium. He started 11 for 13 and ended up 20 for 38.
His raw QBRs against the four best Ds we've faced have been:
Utah - 65.7
USC - 30.4
Colorado - 24.1
Bama - 17.6
His raw QBRs against the rest of everyone? 87.5
He's basically Colt Brennan who chokes.
It's sad because I really like him for many reasons, but at this point he is who he is.

Also - I should add that while going 9 for 25 after the opening drive, he also killed us by throwing a pick 6 right before half.
I said to Greg immediately prior to that play, "all we need is no turnovers here. 10-7 at half will be a victory for us."
The only real chance with Jake is to recognize him as a game-manager and get better protection for him.
However, his INT vs. Utah that changed that game wasn't a product of pressure. He had time. It was just a critical moment and he instinctively fucked the pooch.
Agreed. Crazy thing is this team with him at QB can win 24 games over the next two seasons despite that. Let's hope that once we get a QB with some moxie (old, rich, and white for swag), the rest of the team is still good and can take that final step. I think pretty much all of us were sitting there thinking just run the ball, protect the 10-7 score, and get to the locker room for adjustments. When he threw the pick I screamed at the jumbotron in the Ceasar's sportsbook so loud the hot bartender jumped. Lucky for me she just brought more booze instead of removing me. You can get away with anything in Vegas.
Since the road to excess leads to the palace if wisdom, let me be the first to suggest that the best thing that can happen to Browning is spending a week in Vegas with Swaye.

Steely eyed pussy slaying machine. Of course he would also be an alcoholic, but that never hurt Favre much. Except for the dick pics.

I am taking perspective on this loss but I am actually still pissed we lost. First time in a long time.
I would have beat him to death with my bare hands.
