(for those who don't know, I worked on T2 for four months. Wasn't part of the Fontana/steel mill location (but I did make it out there a few times) because I was working on the mental hospital, Dyson house, and biker bar locations, and the main Cyberdyne interior set in Valencia)
Set construction. It's part of the preproduction process where the production designer and art director take the storyboards and figure out what every set in the shots is supposed to look like, and then they design and build sets that correspond with the production designer's vision. Sometimes I also worked standby with the production company during principal photography, doing on-the-spot alteration of the sets when the director says he/she wants something different than what we gave him (this can be rather stressful, as sometimes you find yourself having Jim Cameron and a $60,000/hr production crew standing by at 2am, waiting for you to get your job done). Then, after the production company has moved on to another location, we would come in and strike the set, either destroying it or fold&holding it for future use.
