Smart thing for Baldwin. Take over a mid-major, kick ass, and then get a top-flight job in a few years.
He's going to be very mediocre. He doesn't give a shit and knows nothing about defense.
Petersen is the rare offensive coach that gives a shit about defense. Petersen, Meyer, Harbaugh. Most these offensive coaches are Sark, Kingsbury, Sumlin types. Add Baldwin to the list.
I disagree. I think he will succeed and understands the importance of the other phases. Im no expert in eastern football but im close with guys that played and coached with him going back to his central days; they all say he gets it.

Championship winning coaches focus on defense, regardless of their playing and/or coaching background. Adding a few more names, Don James, Bobby Bowden, Mike Ditka, even Steve Spurrier, all played (and some coached) offensive positions but won it all by fielding great defenses. The cliche "Defense wins Championships" rings true, the best coaches know this instinctively.

Spurrier was smart enough to hire Bob Stoops to win the natty at Florida. And once upon a time Oklahoma played defense under Stoops
