I think it's fair to criticize the play call as the offense was in a rhythm moving down the field and it wasn't necessary to disrupt that.

however, you have to point out that if Brownsocks even puts a finger on him it's probably a TD given the fact that USC is playing man and UW has blockers in front with no USC defender in sight.

that along with the underthrown bomb to ross, overthrown to daniels, blocked FG. Yeah USC outplayed us. but there was a bunch of missed opportunities and probably 14-21 points we left on the board

How many shuttle passes did we see against their aggressive front. How many times did we run a gap with Lavin Coleman ? How many quick outs to Ross or slant passes did we see? USC would have given those up all night to protect against Ross going deep.

When did I ever defend the call. It was unnecessary. Just pointing out that it was this close to being a td. As was about 3 or 4 other plays on Saturday.

thing is, Browning has probably already thrown 2-3 decent blocks this year. I really don't think it's appropriate play calling to rely on your true sophomore QB to continue to throw key blocks on plays when you don't have a reliable backup or if, you know, you want him to be healthy...especially against physical players like USC has.

Agree with this, it's not like Jake's a pussy who shies away from contact. He's shown himself a willing blocker. He's still a small 19 year old QB. Expecting him to deliver on every block on a DE is asking a lot.

I'll add another head scratcher for our OC. We lined up in that shitty wildcat formation (the 2016 version of the wild swede package) and Jake's flanked out on a db. At the end of the play, Jake is buried in SC's sideline. Nothing happened, nothing dirty, but all it takes is one dirty db, or opponent who thinks it would be funny to trip/kidney punch, knee in the lower back, etc and your starting qb is starting no more.

If the reverse has fooled everyone well enough, there is no one for Jake to have to block. I don't think the 4th/5th play of the game, we have established their DE was crashing which was what the TSIO guys referenced in their podcast as well.

Not to defend the call too much because it was stupid but Ross could have and should have burned that dude. He had a step. I think he was sizing up the blocks ahead instead of just going full steam.
