Let's just agree to disagree and say the old bowl system was better.
It wasn't.
In 1990 we came out of seemingly nowhere to be national title contenders and we're rewarded with a rose bowel game against Hayden Fry and fucking Iowa. In 2000 we came out of seemingly nowhere and we're rewarded with a rose bowel game against Joe Tiller (fucking duck???) and fucking Purdue.
In 2016 we've come out nowhere and have a legitimate shot to be rewarded with a game against Alabama or Clemson, or if they earn their way there an excellent Big Ten champ, not one who sucks.
The current system falls short of what it should be but it's far better than the old system.
1984 ?
All natty contention seasons are equal but some are more equal than others.
