Grubby Sweatpants Podcast: The Playoff Matchups as they should be

Me and DeLarry give our thoughts on the recently released playoff rankings, and what they should ideally be. One of us feels Washington deserves to be in, the other doesn't.

We also explore the 1997 and 2000 seasons, and what the playoff matchups should have been for those years. We hear some names from the past.

Why 97?

Because it was the last year of the old traditional way before the advent of the BCS system and everything that came afterward. There were two undefeated teams that season that didn't get to play each other.

That's the year we? didn't win a Rose Bowl but still popped off.

personally, I wouldn't care about getting our doors blown off by Bama. The experience and exposure of an undefeated season would be enough in itself.

With that being said, if we finish 13-1 with a rose bowl win it's hard to complain about the season, even if the playoff has taken some of the mystique away from the rose bowl

Including the outcome of a 20 year old bowl game is research.

Nebraska blew out Florida after the '95 season, and by '97 there still would've been enough roster and coaching continuity to reasonably assume that '97 Nebraska would still probably beat '97 Florida, which was the original observation.

You'd have a valid point if it was far enough removed that there was no roster carryover, but that didn't happen.
