Lebatard nailed it this morning. Durant is the only free agent that matters. The rest is bullshit.
Like the Knicks trying to get Rose and Noah together. They couldn't win when they were young and healthy.
The Warriors, Cavs, and where Durant goes are the only contenders for the ring
As already noted, writing off the Spurs at this poont is FS. And you wouldn't have listed GS as contenders going into last season (nor would I). Someone else could easily sneak into contention.
I personally think that the Spurs are in a bit of a transition ... I just don't see enough guys on their team that I would consider athletic enough to beat the top teams in the league. IF KD stays with OKC, that's always been a bad athletic matchup for the Spurs. And same thing with the Warriors.
As long as Robinson and Duncan were top players the Spurs were contenders
It's the NBA
And now they have Leonard. Problem solved.
The Spurs team ball seems to make many underrate their players, sans Duncan.
A few years ago, Parker was the best PG in the league, but got nowhere near the appreciation.
Ginobili was always limited minutes wise because his style of play was reckless. In the playoffs, he was always a top dawg and always came up huge.
Leonard is maybe the best two way swing man in the league, finished 2nd in the MVP vote, but is seen by many as merely an All Star in the right system.
These guys were always fucking good. The Spurs are still really fucking good with a coach and front office that has proven they can make the proper tweaks to the roster and style of play.
