You do realize the minimum wage doesn't get to $15 an hour until 2022, right? So it's hilarious that your news source blames the $15 an hour wage, not mismanagement at the college. Why don't you bash the fact the management fucked up, but they keep their jobs while they let the janitors go?
The $15 per hour is a factor, but there's a lot more going wrong there than that.

Fuck that was hard to read with all of the embedded javascript video, dozens of links, and random visual noise all over the fucking place. The internet is ruining journalism.
That said, I didn't see anything about $15/hour in that article.
Any of you guys that are worried that paying people $15/hour is going to cause unemployment in your job sector... should look into upgrading your job sector.

The much bigger concern is small businesses that can't afford a 50% increase in their cost of labor.

It's not our jobs that we're worried about you egotistical douchebag. It's the elimination of the entry level jobs that you and your Gods think should be living wage jobs, that will put them back on your cherished government roles.

Ah I see. Thanks for clearing that up.
For the record, I think the idea of a "living wage job" is stupid. People should not expect to live alone in a one bedroom apartment on minimum wage, let alone support a spouse and kids.
Do what I fucking did... work you way through college sharing a 3 bedroom place with 4 dudes (yeah, one guy slept on the couch).
I do agree with many liberal ideas, and I'm pro labor, but I agree that the living wage idea is fucked up.
That said, is $15/hour really that hard for small business to afford? I wouldn't know, I've been in corporate life for the past 25 years.
Ozone's 75% correct. The living wage as stipulated is not actually a real drain on businesses. However I disagree that the "living wage" is unworkable. This is a wealthy country; there's no reason that in late capitalism there shouldn't be guaranteed income for the working class, accompanied by a free market for the middle class strivers like Sven. Zing.

Businesses have absorbed every minimum wage hike without issues. If people were saying $15 an hour tomorrow, some would struggle. But these are increases over a few years. About every 10 years we go through a minimum wage increase. The federal side should increase minimum wage to about $10 an hour.

$30/ hour minimum wage would allow everyone to buy new fuel efficient cars, pay for healthcare, a home, college for more kids... $45 would be better still

Yeah, it's not 2005 anymore. Just go to college and you'll be a success is a fairy tale.

No question about that. My wife got her bachelors in psychology. Most worthless piece of paper (not to mention the 50K in student loans) there is.
The biggest problem is we've told this generation to follow their heart and study something that makes them happy. Most of the shit that makes them happy is worthless in the real world.
Can't wait until we get to pay for everybody to have a worthless major!
