remember when Brazil was touted as a socialist Mecca

This doesn't answer the question posters are asking you. When was this the case... "remember when Brazil was touted as a socialist Mecca"sarktastic said:President Dilma Rousseff of the leftist Workers’ Party began her second term in January 2015. A recession, fiscal and monetary belt-tightening, and a far-reaching kickback scheme involving her party and the state-controlled Petróleo Brasileiro oil company sent her approval rating plummeting. Brazil has poor public services, antiquated and insufficient infrastructure, and high tax rates. In recent years, inflation has surged again. Growth is sluggish, but Brazil’s “Bolsa Família” conditional cash transfer program for the poor has won support in some sectors. Brazil is the world’s seventh-largest economy, and its population of almost 200 million is heavily concentrated on the Atlantic coast. Since the advent of the monetary “real plan” in the 1990s and the end of hyperinflation, the poverty rate has dropped, but heavy government intervention in the economy continues to limit development.

Like I posted above, it wasn't touted the way in was in Venezuela earlier on, but Lula was expected to be a champion of the poor. He was elected as the candidate of the Worker's Party which is, shockingly, fairly socialist in ideology.OZONE said:
No. When was this and who was saying it? I haven't heard of Brazil described as socialist before. Are you confusing it with another country?sarktastic said:remember when Brazil was touted as a socialist Mecca
Here is a piece about it from 2009:

But Googling is difficult, I realize. -

1. How is any of what you just wrote the same as this "remember when Brazil was touted as a socialist Mecca". So again, when was it "touted" as a "Mecca" and who was doing the touting?
2. Is this your other handle? -
Since your Google seems to be brok n, I recommend Bing

Brazil is a country. Mecca is a city. Comparison doesn't hold water.

That short wiki page doesn't call Brazil a socialist "mecca" -- or suggest that it ever was one, or being "touted" as one.sarktastic said:
Are you sure you aren't thinking of the other country in S.A. that is a bit further north?
