There are normally some compelling 1st round series ... but that was back before they changed the seeding rules to really slant the playing field to the teams with home court advantage.
In the East, there are potentially 2 compelling series. Detroit and Charlotte may win a game.
In the West, the difference in quality between the Top 4 and the Bottom 4 is vast. That's a little abnormal.
With the change in the seeding, I think you could argue that going back to a 5 game first round series makes some sense.
