He's our #1 TE prospect (ahead of the local kid who wants to go to USC). So far Paopao has not been able to attract an elite TE (Ajamu, Neal, Sample, and Kizer were all lightly recruited and Plan B guys).
This recruitment is showing to be the biggest casualty of the limited class size. We essentially had to tell Jaggers he was option #1 at the expense of telling Hunter Bryant that he's a plan B (which is the main reason he's looking elsewhere IMO). Except we fucking need Bryant's receiving ability and toughness badly.
Now obviously Jaggers is the better player overall, but if we land him and not Bryant it'll essentially force Jacob Kizer and his bad back out of the TE equation entirely. Sample has another 3 years as the main Y, then when he leaves Jaggers will be either be a sophmore or redshirt frosh ready to take over that spot. Creating pointless Cory Fuavi style dead weight.
Oh and let's not forget that the most likely scenario is that Jaggers picks somewhere else, and Bryant tells us to fuck off when we come apologizing like BP after the oil spill.
This could've all been avoided if we tried to recruit Bryant as a receiver like WSU is, but it's probably too late for that. I'll eat my words if Pete closes this one, but if he misses then it'll be yet another fuck up in the pass catcher recruiting.

It better not go like that. They should try to get Bryant in the fold regardless. Either that is your only TE and that's better than fine, or you end up with a high class problem of Bryant and Jaggers (very low probability).

A few things.
-Bryant is on record saying USC is the team he grew up rooting for and they are his dream school so he shouldn't feel slighted that UW is looking at other TE prospects. -I can also guarantee you Bryant was not "told he was a Plan B". -As for the Cory Fuvai dead weight, that's a reality in college football. If you take a TE every year, like you should, not everyone will get to play. Some will LEAVE, some will play backup for their career. When Sample graduates, there will likely be 3 guys vying for his spot. Two guys won't get it.

Get neither? That would be a pretty big fuck up.
