Timmons

Since we aren't going to get romar fired and talking about it is beyond pointless. Let's look at something on the horizon which I don't understand.

Romar had turned a corner in 2015 when it came to recruiting. He loaded up with a class of guys which resemble his success stories. Lanky, reasonably tall, extreme athletes who can run the floor and guard multiple positions. Then I remembered timmons was with the team and so I spent a few minutes this AM looking up a few videos of the guy and wondering wtf is he doing on UW's roster.

Great, he's 6'11". Awesome. He's slow as all shit. He really looked awful in just about every video I saw of him, and I wonder how or why would he fit into every single player on this roster? I thought romar finally scrapped the whole huge body guy is the way to win and smartened up to the fact that you don't need an ogre, let alone someone clogging the lanes when you have a bunch of slashers and creators all over the floor.

I can't wait to watch how miserably this ends up turning out when you have fultz and Dmurray trying to get to the lane only to watch timmons guy in constant help b/c he won't leave a 4' radius to the basket.

The Timmons story is weird. He was completely off the radar when Jaquori McLaughlin's dad started posting that Romar had a surprise "Gonzaga-like" foreign big coming in that would blow everyone away (at the time, his son was committed to UW and the bored was calling for Romar's head as the season went to shit. At the time, no one had any idea who Timmons was.

Then it's announced and Timmons is immediately given a 4 star rating despite no one knowing anything about him except for a grainy video of him playing in New Zealand as a 14 year old.

Of course the 4 stars made everyone on dawgman cream their pants but I have my doubts. The kid could be the exception (I admit, I don't know much about his game) but Romar has brought in many tall, white stiffs during his tenure and all have been complete garbage under his coaching.

He and some guys from New Zealand won the FIBA U18 3 on 3 tournament. Team had Tai Wynyard who I think is redshirting for Kentucky (not going to look it up). Having a big space eater can be beneficial, much like karnowski, or MacCullough, Baynes, Smith, and to some extent Brockman. Aaron Beach (yeah that's my source) indicated on twitter that Timmons has been hitting the weights pretty hard and has dropped 8% of body fat. Kid looks like (or I should say is hopefully) a banger which is kind of what the team needs, especially since they have been pushed around on the glass so much. I honestly don't expect him to crack the starting rotation at all (at least as next season is concerned), but only to add depth to a very thin frontcourt. Otherwise, I'll reserve judgement after he actually starts playing, and I agree he could totally be overrated.

I saw the highlights of him playing 3/3(posted above 2nd link). He looks slow and very unathletic. Which is my exact point. Romar sucks at developing bigs, and sucks even worse at any semblance of a half court offense. He's always been best with players who could stretch the floor and turn it into more romarball/rollball, whatever you want to call it. We've all seen what happens when romar is left trying to set up a 4-high offensive set.

I'm not saying the kid couldn't succeed on the right team with the right offensive set up, but it's a really odd add to this mix of players currently littering the UW lineup. I can't see he and dime, chriss or dickerson playing together without massively slowing down the movement of the team.

Guess we can look forward to more high ball screens. YEAH

Was MBA a big? Just wondering. Because he developed into an all conference player. Again I don't like Timmins as the prototype but I can see the benefit especially after watching the Cal, Utah, Arizona games. He doesn't need to come in and be an all p12 player or freshman, he will only need to add depth, get anywhere up to 6 & 5 and hopefully develop.

Yes, MBA is a big. But he also isn't prototype in the sense he was very athletic where as timmins looks more like a big.

Will be interesting to see how he looks after being on campus and in the weight room. Doesn't look like he played against much competition which will could help him progress quickly

Ever since Timmins got here I've been watching him specifically in warm-ups to try to get a sense of what he brings to the table. He's definitely slow and incredibly raw offensively, but he has a very capable 3 point shot that he hits more consistently than most of the guards during warm-ups. I also wound up standing next to him in a food line on campus a couple weeks ago, and the dude is already built solidly. I imagine the goal is to get him leaner by the time next season rolls around.

So as far as why he's here, I think Romar saw all the schools like Gonzaga and SeattleU bringing in these foreign bigs successfully and wanted a piece of the action. Timmins wouldn't be playing american college ball if it weren't for Romar, so I think he's very content to be a long-term project without expecting a ton of playing time like all the American recruits would.

To be positive about it all though, I think the fact that he's so much bigger and likely stronger than the rest of our bigs is a huge bonus to have going forward. No big on the roster is capable of bodying up and defending the bigger guys on other teams right now, which is why Jacob Poetl/the Gonzaga bigs/others absolutely buttfucked us. Having someone who can at least compete with them on the block would be an awesome change.

But it'll likely be 2017 or even 2018 before he starts playing a meaningful role.

Also he's still way better than Devinir fucking Durusseau or however you spell it.

Dunno how Timmons plays basketball, but I liked that one Cowboy Junkies album in college.

If Timmons can shoot that should alleviate some of chavez's legitimate concerns about him clogging the lane offensively. I'm skeptical, but somewhat hopeful. We'll see.

I'm am guardedly optimistic. He's slow, but he appears to have some raw skill. The biggest concern isnt whether this guy is any good, it's if LoRo has any idea what to do with him. One of our worst teams in the last 10 years had Spencer Hawes on it. A stagnant half court POS we were on offense. We were nearly unwatchable and he had a great year individually. And this guy isn't Spencer Hawes.

Doogs everywhere. He sucks. Even if he was OK, Romar is the last coach in the world to develop him.

Two facts lead me to believe that Timmons will be nothing more than a spot-duty role player during his time at the UW (and I hope I'm wrong):

    1. UW has spent this season playing a defensive style that will in no way fit what Timmons supposedly brings to the table next season. I'm not sure why the UW would spend a season playing a defensive system that will have to change if Timmons is expected to play meaningful minutes next season.

    2. Timmons has been here for most of the meaningful part of THIS season and has been eligible to play. If he was good enough to bang and give the UW some semi-effective presence in the middle, he'd already have hit the floor, especially given the fact that UW bigs foul at a historic rate.

There was always 0% chance he'd play. He didn't get here until the new year, then he has to learn and get a hang on whatever lackluster schemes and plays Romar runs (which the rest of the team had several months to do). Even if he got the schemes down and was good enough to play, there's no point in burning the redshirt that late into the season.

Fuck, I pictured a college Andrew Bogut. I actually bought the hype with this guy. A 6'10" Peja Drobniak that can occasionally hit a 3 doesn't excite me. I wanted a big mean Bogut or skilled Aaron Baynes.

I hate this kid because he's white.

I played rugby in Aus/New Zealand and while they're beasts on the "pitch" they're complete shit on the hardwood.

Zero instincts or sense of the game. The average Tequilla American can setup a zone in a pickup game and run the floor. I'm only 6' and was fucking their post men up with simple up and unders.

The point is I'd be very cautious about anybody coming out of NZ, especially a 6'11 guy who most likely had zero competition.

Being white is a huge draw back for this kid, but maybe he will find his inner rage and dominate after taking a few lines.

Nothing about his jumper in the grainy videos I've seen show anything other than a tall kid playing against shit competition. I didn't see a jumper at all
