I would be curious to how Race, DJ, and others around in the 80's would rank some of the players. I would have to imagine Reggie Rodgers, Ron Holmes, and Joe Kelly would rank very high.
Shaq being anywhere on there is ridiculous. As a college player Mason Foster had a better career. The 2010 team would have went 3-9 or 4-8 without Foster. He was pretty much the only guy worth a shit that we lost off the defense from the 2010 team and we saw how bad the 2011 defense was.
Trufant doesn't belong. It's too bad he had to play under Sark and Holt, but he wasn't even legitimately good until his senior year. A buddy that I used to watch the games with absolutely hated Trufant. I always defended him, but I remember it being kind of tough sometimes.
Where these players are drafted and their NFL careers cloud judgment. Nobody could convince me that Shaq was a better player as a Husky than Jason Chorak.
Lol at Goldson. Another guy where it's a bummer he played on shit teams, but he wasn't even really good at UW. I remember him being hurt quite a bit too.
Peters is one of the most talented players to ever play at UW. He only played 2.5 seasons though. Kikaha had a great career and would probably make my list.
I'm one of the few here that feel this way, but Danny Shelton was an overrated Husky. I liked him, but he parlayed 8 sacks against the sisters of the poor into millions. Kind of like Trufant, he only had one really good season. He was an above average/pretty good player before that. Imo, Tripplett was a better DT for the Dawgs. They are different players, but sub Danny Shelton for Tripplett against Miami and I'm not sure we win that game. We for sure don't win the next game against Colorado.
These kind of lists are fucking hard. -
There's Stan Emptermann at #1 and then there's everyone else.
I agree that Shaq, Trufant, Goldson, Shelton and Peters don't make a top 10 list of all-time Husky defensive players. -
That guy probably thinks Marcel Reece is a top 3 offensive player too. FTG.
-
lol at Trufant. Had to be a whoosh unless it was krisvashon.
-
Not sure about Shelton. Guy was pretty fucking good, and Washington isn't exactly D line U.CFetters_Nacho_Lover said:There's Stan Emptermann at #1 and then there's everyone else.

If you're just going by d line he's up there.
-
I mean he's not even close to Tank Johnson.creepycoug said:

There was 30 to 40 years where they rolled out defensive players like an assembly line going back to Owens . If I pick 3 I doubt any of them are past 1991
-
3 best UW defensive players of all time?
I had to go a ways back but I came up with
1) Shaq Thompson
2) Buddha Baker
3) Camilo Eifler -
Shaq shouldn't even have been playing defense his last year at UW.
-
Dumbshit Reddit doog. It's Marcus Petersen, not Peterson.PostGameOrangeSlices said:Shaq Thompson, Steve Emtman and cannot forget Lawyer Milloy.

Victor Azeem, Buddah Baker, and Long Neck
-
Based on my experience I would say:
1. Stan Emptermanan
2. Ronnie Holmes
3. Michael Jackson
Honorable Mention: Dave Hoffmann, Reggie Rogers and Doug Martin
I would like to hear @RaceBannon's take on Rick Redman since he saw him play. -
Chris Massey
Darrion Jones
Tripper Johnson -

Wasn't Johnson more of a 3-technique? I don't recall exactly what kind of defense the Huskies were running under Neuheisel. -
Rick Redman was always the star of the Varsity Alumni game as an Alum. Good NFL player, he would punt at the spring game. Redman was a consensus All American. That is the minimum requirement in my book
-
Emtman is obvious. Milloy is debatably outside the top 3, but not far outside.PostGameOrangeSlices said:Shaq Thompson, Steve Emtman and cannot forget Lawyer Milloy.

The rest of those names? -
Emtman Rogers Peters
-
In my lifetime, it has to be Milloy, Emtman, and Kikaha.
There was a serious 20 year gap without any decent defensive players. Larry Tripplet, Chorak, Shelton, and Peters are on the outside looking in.
Edit: Jeremiah Pharms was pretty scary too. -
You'd piss yourself to be half as good as Pharms.Doogles said:In my lifetime, it has to be Milloy, Emtman, and Kikaha.

Enmpterman is the no brainer. Milloy is possible. Ron Holmes I would think is there. But really, anyone after around 92 would be tough since we didn't have a decent defense past then. But in a few years, Azeem could be on the list. If you don't count SR years, Walter Bailey would be in the conversation. If you do, then his nickname of Toast says it all. -
1. Stan Emptermanan
2. Ronnie Holmes
3. Jack Lockner (superb athlete with great hips) -
No love for '91: Farr, Mason, Hoffman, Clifford, Hall, Smith, Palkoa - honorable mentions but right there with the players the faggot Millenials are spouting off about
-
This is a hard task to come up with just 3.
The no-brainers are Emptman and Holmes, but #3 could apply to about a dozen or more. Milloy, Parrish, Meamber, Farr, Brown, Hall, Pahukoa, Jerue, Pharms, Hoffman, Chorak, Jackson, Martin, Glasgow, Horton, Stewart, Newsome, Krakoski, Small, Kelly, Erlandson, D. Jones, Fields, Towns................and the list goes on, I just don't know any of the badasses from the years prior to the mid-70's.
-
Not sure I'd put Steve Hoffman in there, but whatevs. (faggity wink dealy)dflea said:This is a hard task to come up with just 3.
