The Beatles had Lennon, McCartney, and George Martin to write songs and put everything together to make a quality final product. A lot of people don't realize how crucial Martin was to the production of their music.
Brian Wilson was the creative mind and the technician for the Beach Boys. He did it basically by himself. Pretty amazing, really.

Nailed it on the Beatles. During the atudio years, Paul McCartney wrote shitty pop songs (see post-Beatles career) while Lennon wrote weird ass stuff and was often a bipolar maniac in the studio. Martin was able to bring both song styles to a point of perfection.
It's really a damn shame how there are so many ego-maniacs in the music business.
Pink Floyd is another great example. Waters and Gilmour needed each other to produce quality music. Unfortunately, they perceived the conflicts as something negative that needed to end, instead of realizing that their conflict and ability to compromise kept each other's shitty music-making decisions in check.
