Welcome to the Hardcore Husky Forums. Folks who are well-known in Cyberland and not that dumb.
eklund and grinolds unsure about Petersen's recruiting.
Apparently the jury is still out on whether he can do it at this level. Take it from the experts.
I wonder if they'll give him as much credit as they have sark for being a recruit's second choice. Coach needs a "St. Pete's Day massacre."

Can someone please go ISIS on these two nut-jugglers?
Sark had 2 highly rated classes:
1) 2010 when he took 31 commits and had 10 4-stars but a ton of 2-stars
2) His last class that had Ross, Mathis, Troy Williams, etc.
The classes in between were very pedestrian.
Petersen's class of 25 had 8 4-stars last year and his class of 13( so far) this year has 5
Kim (and Eklund to a small degree) simultaneously over inflated Sark's reputation as a recruiter and started the narrative that Petersen would be battling San Jose State for 2-star recruits to fill up his board (Sark also took plenty of 2-star and unrated players). The recruiting rankings bullshit hasn't changed much from Sark to Petersen, however there have been a few differences in how they recruit. Petersen seems to be much more methodical and process-based with recruiting whereas Sark threw shit at the wall to see what stuck. He'd take a recruit and if a better one came along, he'd drop him. Sark also overvalued sexy positions like WR and QB and neglected linemen and had some serious issues with unbalanced classes.
The biggest thing though, is how many Sark recruits decommitted before signing, flamed out, quit, or got kicked off the team within their first 2 years. Petersen thus far has had only one kid decommit (who ironically chose Sark), and one kid kicked off the team (Nate Dogg's kid).
One other interesting thing is that Sark was absolutely horrible against Oregon in recruiting. he went head-to-head for a lot of kids with Oregon and in almost all cases, the kid picked Oregon. Petersen has done significantly better recruiting against them but Helfrich might have something to do with that.
In short, Petersen has not shown he can consistently beat out the big dogs for recruits yet, but neither did Sark (despite what the peddlers will tell you), and Petersen's recruiting process seems to be more in line with building a program.
Petersen has done a much better job recruiting than Sark, or any other Husky coach over the past 15 years for that matter. His focus on recruiting nasty mentally tough players on defense and big uglies on offense, almost all of whom have been both academically qualified and have stuck with the program (so far), is exactly what has been missing. In general, he deserves props for his recruiting.
The problem with Pete has been that his offense has sucked sweaty ballz. That's an area Kimmy and Ektard could justifiably question whether or not Pete's the right guy, but I guess they're recrooting jeniusess so they feel compelled to comment on what they pretend to know, but really know little about. Anyway, forgetting about the tards on DM, next year had better mark a real turning point, those close losses they suffered this year need to be wins. If that doesn't happen then it will be clear that Petersen is the wrong guy.
He had one good class of WRs (Ross, String and Daniels; admittedly pretty amazing), but the rest of the fucking time, he got 2 decent ones (Smith and Kasen) in 5 years.
Recruiting is all about getting the best players that you can fit that buy in and fit what you're trying to do both on and off the field. Once they get in the program, it's how much can you develop their skills and what kind of work that they do in S&C.
Easiest example to me is Gonzaga basketball ... they almost always get guys that fit what it is that they are trying to do. They have a system and recruit to it. It's what Petersen is doing as well #OKGForLife.
I'm sure it will show how great Sark did in recruiting, as last years ranking made me want to shoot myself in the eye. But he's a great recruiter, everyone says so!
It should be pretty obvious to anyone who is actually watching that recruiting is better. Peterman's first two classes were immediately on par with Sark's best classes and they actually included good players on the OL.
The big difference has already been evident though, Peterman's lower ranked players would kick the living shit out of Sark's lower ranked players.
As others have said, my concern with Peterman has nothing to do with recruiting/player development/culture, it has everything to do with what goes on during gameday.
That was a remarkable story.
