TOO EARLY OFF SEASON NATTY discussion: Defense: Who's gone next Year and who steps up,

Gone:
Tupou, Taniela: Go big with Gaines and move Qualls to DT?
Feeney, Travis
Littleton, Cory
Clay, Brian: Replaced by Turner, Ezekiel
Not sure how UW replaces this edge production. Play big with Mathis at buck and Dizzly at DE? Or does POTOAE look to blow up next year? I know someone out there predicted Jusstis to start a true freshman, could he start next year at Littleton's spot?

I keep waiting for them to move Mathis to BUCK (he didn't have the girth to pass rush inside this year) and play Qualls and Gaines together.
I would like to see a two deep of:
DE: Dissly, Johnson, Bowman? Scrempos?
DT: Qualls, McCoy
NT: Gaines, Vea
BUCK: Mathis
ILB: Victor, Wellington
ILB: Bierria, BBK
SLB: Bartlett, Eifler
CB: Jones, Miller, Joyner
CB: King, Gardenhire, Love
S: Budda, Beav?, Rapp
S: McIntosh, Turner -
Potato Jr is a BUCK no?
-
I think in that 2 Deep he is a back up to a Sr. Mathis which sounds about right to me for the top defense in the Pac 12. Mathis will be required to have a high motor in that spot, so I assume they rotate Jr Potatoe in and oftenLoneStarDawg said:Potato Jr is a BUCK no?
I'm putting my money on Warren's athletic ability and speed , combined with the leaders in the middle.
-
Potatoe was going through drills at LB today pre game. I think they want him at Buck, he looks fantastic physically (75k but I'm an unabashed TBSer, so it's ok)
-
I'm somewhat worried about Buck/OLB...Feeney and Littleton (yes Dennis) have been really good this year. I'm not sure but there is potential for a big loss there that affects the defense more than we'd think. Hopefully Mathis or whoever can keep it going.
The DL will be very good and very deep. -
There's enough talent I think that gets squared awayHeretoBeatmyChest said:I'm somewhat worried about Buck/OLB...Feeney and Littleton (yes Dennis) have been really good this year. This. Need Potoa'e and perhaps one of the young OLB's (Justiss?) to step up. I think that's why they're going hard after that JC DE named Jonathan Kongbo.HeretoBeatmyChest said:I'm somewhat worried about Buck/OLB...Feeney and Littleton (yes Dennis) have been really good this year.

I'm not anti-Littleton, he's just a Kevin Smith Shoulda Redshirted All-Star who played for no reason his first year, now he's just starting to get good, but everyone rational is forced to admit he's nondescript.HeretoBeatmyChest said:I'm somewhat worried about Buck/OLB...Feeney and Littleton (yes Dennis) have been really good this year. I'm curious about Justiss in that OLB spot vacated by Littleton
6'3 230lbs and 4.6 in high school

If we get Kongbo, it would really mean something; which is saying a lot.
The Lakewood Potatoe Jr. looks the part, tho. If he can play BUCK, so be it. I think Mathis has talent; he just isn't a DE. I think he could thrive in the BUCK role.
The Dissly thing is puzzling. It makes no sense that he didn't redshirt last year and now he'll be one of those kids who starts playing lights out the last half of his senior year.
A kid I really liked on film was Scrempos and with how our DL kids seem to come along he could be impressive. -
Redshirting the entire frosh d-line class was really smart. It will be fun to see who pops up on the radar next year. I think Justiss will be a great one. Sterk and McCoy will be interesting but I don't think they will be ready yet. Scrempos looks good and I think Potatoe gets a lot of play.
The secondary will be one of the best in the country next year. LBs will be awesome if they can get good production out of Littleton's replacement
The other big offseason move needs to be Psalm Wooching into Petersen's office with the door shut, and then promptly on his way out of town. -
Mooching gets paid on the depth chart , EWU transfer or welcome to Missoula
-
Peterman needs to throatslash Wootang's scholarship
-
I have a special distaste and annoyance for Jaydon Mickens and the wussy way he plays but Psalm Wooching is seriously 100x worse.
You have to be a special kind of douchebag to be a benchwarmer who talks shit and commits personal fouls EVERY FUCKING game. Yeah, you're such a badass tackling a guy after the team is ahead by 30points. Better talk shit or do the throatslash or hit him after the play to show how much your 4th-year junior, benchwarming ass owned him. Petersen should be telling him to pack his bags. He doesn't belong on this team -
I still hate everyone. Win the conference next year or fuck off Pete!
-
He's my least favorite. I'd like to thank Chest for pointing out the other team scores 81% of the time he is in the game.
Sorry iPhone posting as spell check while stroking one off the the bounce thread is tough. I meant Wooching will get passed on the depth chart by the young guys this spring. He will transfer to Montana or hopefully we can trade him straight up for that EWU receiver.
Pete was not happy with him last night, look of death he gave him -
I'm against Wooching, but I support the throat slash gesture.
-
Can we stick Wooching with the same AIDS needle we give Mickens?
-
Swaye, you of all people should know that the best way to get AIDS is by becoming blood brothers.
-
Wait, we're stuck with the fire dancer one more year? Fuck.
-
Scrempos is now 6-6 280 and looks like a man in his bio pic compared to a year ago when he was 6-6 252.
Thing about Wooching is he's actually improved. He's actually made a few plays recently. He was worthless and annoying the first half of the year. Now he's just annoying.
I don't know how much better the defense can get statistically. It was #4 and #12 in both advanced stats I follow. If the offense plays a relatively mistake free game (no TO's, make short FG's) the final score might be 51-3 or 37-3 before the last 2 return TDs. The key to next season will be how much the offense improves. If we were an NFL team we'd trade 2 DL for 2 WR's. -
LB is the only spot on D I don't think we are super deep, but I guess that depends on how guys develop anyway. We are super deep on the DL (when is the last time we ever had that), and deep in the secondary. This D should be lights out for a few more years if we can find replacements at LB, and the young DL and DBs continue on their trajectory.HeretoBeatmyChest said:Scrempos is now 6-6 280 and looks like a man in his bio pic compared to a year ago when he was 6-6 252.

I like the young OLB's on this team -
Scrempos, McCoy and Potoa'e all should be good if we've had any indication from our young pups.
The thing I like about all of them is that they are physically rare guys. Scrempos is huge (I really loved his film, high DDY 2); McCoy is a tall/wide 3-Tech, hard to find; Potoa'e is a big, fast, solid, quick, strong Elephant/Terrell Suggs type.
All could be very good.
Also, to answer the @HeretoBeatmyChest question; it's really just about playing better in key situations. Getting off the field on 3rd and long, getting more turnovers.
If we could get off the field more on 3rd and long via pass and 3rd and short via run we would be really fucking good. -

I still say we have 2 all Pac 12 WR's coming in, with a good amount of depth. Ross, and Daniels are your starters. Sample and Ajamu are your tight ends if we want a physical running game, with Daniels on the edge blocking for bubble screens to Ross and getting the edge free for those Gaskin long runs
-
If Daniels is moved to WR, we also have Mike Neal coming in who could take the Daniels/Perkins role as the black, pass-catching TE while Sample and Ajamu assume the white/brown blocking TE roleNeGgaPlEaSe said:HeretoBeatmyChest said:Scrempos is now 6-6 280 and looks like a man in his bio pic compared to a year ago when he was 6-6 252.

Aaron fuller will pull a BBK next year just to piss off DDY

I want it recognized that I gave BBK a 2. But, Fuller fucking sucks cock. DDY 1.LoneStarDawg said:Aaron fuller will pull a BBK next year just to piss off DDY

Upvoted for juicing it up; not-awesomed for implying that BBK's going to be like two shit-tier white LBs.LoneStarDawg said:

We have actually had good white LBs at Washington. It's been a while, but... I mean...
James Clifford, Dave Hoffmann, David Rill, Bo Yates, Tim Meamber, Brett Collins, etc.
It's been a while, though... our last decent white LB was probably Jerry Jensen, right?
