But How is The Big 12 the WAC?
I was talking to my buddy about the SEC compared to the rest of college football. We both agreed that the SEC is the best, but the QB play is mind bogglingly atrocious, year after year. It's really strange how bad the QB play is down there considering how strong the conference is. When a team had a good QB (Newton, Tebow), they roll over the conference because almost every good team in that conference has a good defense and running game. Then we started talking about how bad the Big 12 was.
Anyways, we started looking at NFL players by conference.
Players drafted in 2015
SEC: 50
ACC: 47
Pac 12: 38
Big Ten: 32
Big 12: 24
TL, DR: The Big 12 sucks. The committee got it right.

I am sure it's just a fluke that of the power 5 conferences, the ones that have longest streak since winning the NC (Pac 12/Big 12) have both adapted that philosophy (minus Stanford)
Football gods still exist and will punish you for going against the basic tenants of the game.
It's not like Colorado was good, but the other three were part of the backbone of the conference.
Texas Tech, Iowa State, and the Kansas schools probably aren't producing much NFL talent. I really hope Baylor isn't producing many defensive players. TCU struggled until big boy talent was recruited.
Plus there are stupid people in the NFL. Ditka thought Derek Anderson was an awesome q.b. People thought Locker was a number one pick. People listen to ESPN and CBS and hear that the Alabama and LSU lines were 4 notches above the Big Tens, when it's really more like half a notch now, and it might have been one five years ago. nobody goes in depth.
