Historical reference to why Peterman could win in spite of himself
The 1984 Huskies had one of the worst offenses I've ever seen. They beat Oregon 17-10 despite gaining 109 yards and 3 first downs. (They scored TDs on a punt return and a blocked punt).
And yet that team went 11-1 and won the Orange Bowl with an incredible defense and special teams.
I am very leery of Petersen's presumed reluctance to make changes on offense. And I agree that when he punted on 4th and 1 from the Oregon 39 yard line, it showed he had limited courage and that Harsin must have been the guts behind the ballsy plays that won the 2007 Fiesta Bowl for Boise State
But there's every chance to believe they could win the north and average 9.5 wins a year, at least for as long as Kuntkowski and Choate remain. The only thing will be that sinking feeling that we're still underachieving and that he's winning enough that UW would never discard him in search for their own Chip Kelly.

Either his offense improved significantly or he won't win here, even with the excellence of the defensive staff.
