We had a great 20-year run.
Now, many of you fuckheads only know my more-recent Quooking. What you don't or can't remember is that
I hated the Helfrich hire, was scared shitless about Chip Kelly leaving Eugene, and begged Derek to start the Duck Half Brains bored so I would have a playpen following my inevitable banning from eQuook (which eventually happened).
The thing was, winners win. And Helfrich won. Right at the magic 15-game mark, I said that he would need to win the conference and make the playoff. That was the reasonable expectation given the talent he had at his disposal and the challenges ahead of him in the 2014 season. The team, even the defense, showed improvement. Oregon beat the living shit out of Arizona in the Pac-12 CCG. I was accused of spamming eQuook with citrus at about that same time. Oregon went on to utterly destroy the defending national champs in the first round of the Rose Bowel.
Since then, Oregon is 3-4 - with losses to Ohio State, Michigan State, Utah, and fucking Wazzu.
The three wins? Eastern, Georgia State, and Colorado.
How good are the Ducks right now? You are what your record says you are, and the record says we are better than Colorado and worse than Wazzu.
That's not very good.
Oregon has financial resources going beyond Uncle Phil. But let's be real. Uncle Phil has a 51% interest in the team. Oregon has the best facilities in the conference. Oregon's AD is known for being something of a tightwad, but he has made some good hires (Dana Altman) and is not shy about making changes when things aren't working (Women's BB).
Problem is, even elite programs, or at least programs with access to far more resources and proximity to recruiting, have wandered in the wilderness.
Either way, it will be interesting.

And BTW, who told you in August TO YOUR FACE that things could get mighty interesting with your Ducks this year particularly if the QB position fell on its face while you were busy running your beak to anybody that would listen about how great the Quooks were???
The irony of all of this does leave a bit of a soft spot in my purple filled heart ... I'll buy you a beer next time I see you ... hopefully PBR or Busch Light is in stock.
I'm not technically gifted enough to dig very far beneath the surface, so if you're winning, you have my support.
And what I remember saying in August is that all Oregon needed was a guy who can pose a credible threat to throw the ball, leaving the rest to Royce, and the defense needed to be slightly better than awful.
The guy who could throw the football broke a finger in his throwing hand, Lockie sucks, Alie might actually be better than Lockie, but Scott Frost is FS, and the defense is worse than awful.
Although I was out in front of the pitchfork crowd after 2013, I actually thought that Helfrich would screw up worse than he did in 2014. Mariota saved the team. God knows what Chip would have done with that roster. Fuck.
Except of course

but you're way better than pdxduckfag and onefineduck bud
BearsWiin (RIP Cal, 9/27/03 - 10/13/07) says fuck you, you got twenty years
The red flag for me came, when Lockie lost the quarterback job within two weeks of Adams' arrival. I got really scared when Adams didn't impress at all in week 1.
I always figured the skill players could overcome average quarterback play. I still think they can, but they can't overcome poor to shitty quarterback play, which is right now the case.
I always knew the defense was crap, I've been saying that since the 2013 Arizona game. And the Ducks followed that up with an embarrassing narrow home victory over the hapless Beavs. Oregon had a couple senior defensive backs that covered up some of the glaring issues. Now that they are gone it has turned into a three ring circus. When Aliotta was coordinator, we had a bend but don't break system, that generated takeaways. We now run a bend but don't break system, that gets broken, and doesn't generate turnovers.
The biggest issue I have with the coaching currently is that we are the atithises was what we used to be (at least offensively).
I can remember twice this year, the Ducks going for two after a score. With chip that was about twice per half. But at the very least, he went for two almost every single time on our first touchdown.
There were two occassions in the second half Saturday, when we would normally go for it. When did Chip ever punt on a 4th and 4 and the opponent's side of the field? Oregon now does that almost all the time.
Oregon gets more false start penalties than ever before. That's a mental preparedness problem, and shows a lack of organization.
Freeman is the only player on Oregon that has gotten better since day one. Since day one Joe Walker has gotten worse, same with Hardrick, and Daniels. Even Buckner is less of a factor this year than before.
In short, Royce Freeman, Charles Nelson, and the youngster Griffin are the only three players that I'm excited about on a team full of under developed softies.
Edit: Charles Nelson is the best tackler on the team, and they play him on offense... go figure
The other "skill players" are shit.
