“Just because something is traditional is no reason to do it, of course.”
― Lemony Snicket
I figured this was appropriate inspiration with which to start a new tradition of my weekly ramblings. This Wednesday (although a bit impromptu) and all Wednesdays henceforth (until the Fox lawyers call) you will be subjected to meaningless blathering on the state of Husky football with obscure history and even more obscure quotes. I preempted myself this week which made me assume I would not be contributing my unique insider perspective until next Wednesday. I suppose that is why George Washington famously stated whilst crossing the Columbia, "When you assume it makes an ass of u and me". Anyways, this will be front page material going forward so expect veiled, yet acerbic political innuendos scattered throughout to drive off any future new comers to the board starting next week.
Just as a refresher you can get your daily fill of tl;dr in my pre-emptman post-game ramblings found here:
http://forum.hardcorehusky.com/discussion/2267/ramblingsI will not reiterate all of that post but the moral is things looked pretty good more or less. The key going forward will be consistency. I am optimistic since this was our first win against a "quality" opponent where we took the plunger to em. Previous "big" wins such as USC 2009, Nebraska 2010, Stanford 2012 were squeakers where we were later exposed as not being there yet. Was this a harbinger of good things to come or were we just luckier than usual? I would suggest waiting before giving Sark a lifetime contract... Only time will tell... tock tock tock...
Husky fans weren't the only group who liked what they saw with our dismantling of BSU. The AP voters ranked UW 20th following this weekend of play - our highest ranking since October 4th, 2003 where we dropped from 18th to unranked after UCLA smacked us around 46-16. One voter (Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Ohio Plain Dealer) ranked UW as high as 8th. By contrast 9 MWC/SEC homers left UW unranked. It is really impressive to see the quick turn around of the UW by our illustrious coaches. It didn't even take a full decade to get back into the AP top 20! It is amazing how quickly some people get frustrated around here and jump to conclusions about the coaches.
Next week you can expect a longer Wednesday ramble including a complete history of the Chicago Bears while I preview the UW-UIUC game at Soldier Field.
