Pease has recruited reasonably well but not nabbing a big time recruit in 2014 or 2015 who could play well immediately. Lenius should've redshirted, Pettis could've redshirted too, and Renfro is the most touted guy he brought in but has the inevitable growing pains (nice catch in tight coverage but then fumbling). Something seems mentally off with Mickens because he's not playing very well.
I can't remember but I think someone here said some players in Florida thought he was a jerk? Guys that he and this staff recruited probably don't think that but Mickens probably does.
He better be working hard on getting his WR's to block better during the bye. I get that these guys (Pettis, Lenius, Renfro) are young but at least show me a little bit of improvement.

Kelly stepped into an ideal situation after being the team's OC for 2 years while Petersen couldn't have had more of an abrupt and severe change from Sarkisian's leftovers.
Besides being an apples and oranges comparison, Petersen is a better fit at UW while Kelly would bring his NCAA baggage from his Oregon days.
Petersen was @ Husky Stadium in 2007 with a rebuilding team after that amazing win against Oklahoma. It ended up being one of his worst seasons at BSU (10-3) and his QB was Taylor Tharp (Taylor who? Exactly).
Petersen beat Sarkisian on a neutral field but then was slaughtered with a rebuilding team in 2013 @ Husky Stadium (his worst team at BSU). That 2013 team turned into a very good 2014 team that Harsin enjoyed inheriting.
OTOH, Petersen kicked Chip Kelly's ass in Eugene (was up 37-13 going into the 4th quarter) and then embarrassed him in BSU.

Chip was an absolute monster at UO. He took them to a level no one else ever did and no one else is going to anytime soon. I'm not a nega Petersen yet but Chip's in the handful of automatic grand slam hires for any school (with Saban, Carroll, Urban and Harbaugh). Petersen's not.

It's obvious just watching slingblade for 2 minutes that he's not a top coach. It's obvious by his resume he's not a top-notch coach. There's a lot of different factors. Colin Cowherd has repeatedly gone off on teams hiring the long-time or trusty assistant because he "deserves" a shot or for continuity sake. And there's a difference between "giving a guy a shot" and hiring an up-and-comer before you lose him to another school (Chip Kelly). He gives tons of examples but obviously Larry Coker is the shining example. Slingblade. Lambright. Gilby. Bill Stewart. John McLaren. Pat Knight (well, actually Bobby pulled a fast one and retired in the middle of conference play and named his son the coach haha). Bill fuckin Doba. Bob Toledo. Karl Dorrell.
